Official Thread 2010 Volkswagen Amarok

The major problem is only one body style, no single cab or cab chassis option, take a look at the number of body options the Japanese utes have, then take a look at the Amarok.

This is a relevant point. I wonder why they missed out on that.

The Geneva Motor Show kicks off next week and MTM has announced plans to unveil its new Volkswagen Amarok V8 Desert Edition at the annual event.

Jointly developed with DIRKS, the model features a two-tone exterior with a front brush guard, extended fender flares, and 20-inch BBS alloy wheels that are wrapped in Cooper off-road tires. The truck has also been equipped with side steps, a roll cage, and blacked out badging.

The rugged exterior gives way to an upscale cabin that is covered in leather and Alcantara upholstery. The tuning firm has also installed carbon fiber trim, auxiliary gauges, and an infotainment system with GPS navigation system and a television function.

Power is provided by a 4.2-liter TDI V8 engine that produces 410 horsepower and 685 pound-feet of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission which enables the truck to accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in six seconds before hitting a top speed of up to 149 mph.

Speaking of performance, the truck has been equipped with a coilover suspension and a high-performance braking system with discs that measure 16-inches up front and 14-inches in the rear.

The Volkswagen Amarok V8 Desert Edition is certainly unique but MTM is asking an astronomical €199,143.92 ($217,514.95) for the model.

2016 VW Amarok facelift teased

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released a trio of digital sketches to preview the upcoming Amarok facelift.

Described as being a “premium pickup,” the Amarok has been around for more than six years, so naturally VW is giving it a refresh both inside and out as our spy images have shown. The body is about to receive slightly redesigned front and rear bumpers, along with new graphics for the headlights and taillights. It seems the front grille is also about to go through a minor nip and tuck and we are also expecting to find new alloy wheel designs. The attached teaser sketches depict the double cab version in an orange shade which will likely arrive with the facelift.

We also catch a glimpse of the interior which has gone through more extensive changes. The reconfigured dashboard makes the Amarok look more car-like and as you can see the touchscreen has been repositioned and now sits higher than before. It’s flanked by the air vents which are making the switch from a circular to an angular shape and are adorned with a chrome trim. The buttons and knobs on the center stack have also been reconfigured to further enhance the feeling you’re in a regular car.

VW isn’t saying at this point whether there are any changes underneath the hood, but we are expecting to find the same turbodiesel 2.0-liter engine linked to a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. Right now it can be had in a single-turbo, 140-hp version with 251 pound-feet (340 newton meters) of torque and in a stronger biturbo, 180-hp guise with 310 lb-ft / 420 Nm (295 lb-ft / 400 Nm with the manual). The engine and the gearboxes can be hooked up to a selectable or permanent all-wheel-drive 4MOTION system.

A full reveal of the facelifted Amarok is slated to take place in the next few weeks before going on sale in the second half of the year.

Wow I didnt realize the Amarok has been out for 6 years already. I wonder when VW will replace it with a total new model. They need to bring in more powerful diesel and petrol engines. If they give the front lights a similar look to the Passat, with more modern grill and aggressive lower intakes and revised rear light graphics together with upgraded interior it will be still one of the best 1-ton pickups on the market.

2016 VW Amarok facelift revealed with V6 turbodiesel engine

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced today the facelifted Amarok which will be offered with a six-cylinder turbodiesel engine.

In a rather surprising move, VW has decided to squeeze in a turbodiesel 3.0-liter V6 engine in the 2016 Amarok where it will be available in three states of tune: 163 hp / 120 kW, 204 hp / 150 kW, and 224 hp / 165 kW. In the strongest iteration, the unit generates a respectable peak torque of 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) from just 1,500 rpm. It’s considerably more powerful than the previous range-topping engine, the biturbodiesel 2.0-liter four-cylinder which has 180 hp / 420 Nm.

VW will sell the 2016 Amarok in a traditional rear-wheel-drive configuration, but customers will be able to pay more for a 4MOTION setup with rear-wheel drive and an engageable front axle in combination with a manual gearbox. In addition, the pickup truck will also be offered with a permanent all-wheel-drive 4MOTION system featuring a Torsen differential and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

VW’s engineers have also fiddled with the transmissions as the highest gears are now longer to reduce revs and fuel consumption. The top-of-the-line version of the 3.0 TDI V6 with the eight-speed auto is going to consume a combined 7.6 liters / 100 km in the NEDC, corresponding to CO2 emissions of 199 g/km.

Besides the beefier turbodiesel engine and the optimized gearboxes, the 2016 Amarok also gains a new Servotronic steering system as standard in Europe. Go for the 224-hp version and you’ll get new 17-inch disc front / 16-inch rear disc brakes to match the extra punch provided by the V6.

In terms of styling, VW’s workhorse has also gone through some subtle cosmetic revisions, including a body-colored sports bar for the Amarok Aventura which will serve as the launch version in Europe. This one rides on fresh 20-inch alloy wheels and comes generously equipped with bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, along with LED license plate lighting and LED illuminated side sills.

For the cargo compartment, VW has prepared a series of covers, styling bars, hardtops, and cargo area coating to fulfill various needs. The load platform of the four-door Amarok is capable of carrying a Euro-pallet loaded sideways and has a maximum payload capacity of more than 1 ton. VW says that in the future, select versions of the facelifted Amarok will be able to tow up to 3.5 tons.

Stepping inside, the cabin now has a more car-like look and benefits from a redesigned dashboard along with new ergonomic seats. The Aventura version comes as standard with Park Distance Control (with rearview camera) and all of the trims will have Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.

The V6-powered version is scheduled to go on sale at the end of September, but initially only the 224-hp configuration will be available, with the other lesser versions joining the range later.

I like this FL the front lights, grill and bumper look really classy, definitely an improvement in looks over the pre FL version. I am happy they have installed a 3.0ltr V6 diesel to replace the 2.0ltr 4 cyl as that engine did get negative reviews for lacking torque.

I realise nothing like this would ever roll out of a VW factory but for the life of me I can't figure out why they havn't dropped in the VAG V6 diesel, I like the Amarok a lot but in the power stakes it's behind the competition from Japan.

Woops, maybe I should have read further down the page before making the comment above. Nice to see V6 are answering the power problem question!!!

The interior has a much needed improvement in the looks and quality of some of the fittings. The airvents, center console etc. looks really classy now its a huge change. It could actually be straight from a car it looks really convincing and is the best interior in the pick up segment.

For me the top 3 interiors are in this order:

1) VW Amarok FL
2) Toyota Hilux
3) Ford Ranger

The others looked a little outdated and low quality compared to these 3 listed above.

Wowza!

My daily driver is a MY2013 Amarok Bi-TDI automatic and I know what I want for Christmas!! I'm totally smitten. Paddle shifters, electric seats, rear brake discs... *heaven*.

I just pray they junked the rear leaf spring agro suspension!

Nice review of the FL Amarok:
