TORRANCE, Calif. — Lexus has announced that its third-generation luxury-SUV flagship, the 2008 LX 570, will be priced at $73,800. The price does not include a $765 destination charge. The 2007 LX 470 was priced at $67,395.

The all-new LX 570 has a new 383-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 paired with a sequential-shift six-speed automatic transmission. Tech features include Crawl Control that regulates throttle and braking, "allowing the driver to focus more on steering" over rough terrain; four-wheel active height control and an adaptive variable suspension.

Intuitive Park Assist and Active Front Headrests, as well as an optional Pre-Collision System with radar cruise control, add to the Lexus' safety features. On the SUV front, the LX 570 has an 8,500-pound towing capacity.

An all-new option for the Lexus SUV is Mark Levinson Reference Surround, an over-the-top high-end audio system developed just for Lexus and originally offered on the 2007 LS 460. The Levinson system has 19 speakers and 450 watts — as well as engineering feats called Timbre Accuracy, Timbre Matching and Dynamics to optimize sound quality and create a "seamless 360-degree sound space in which the individual speaker locations seem to disappear."

What this means to you: This luxury Lexus is like the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog of SUVs: it's all about more and better. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent

This is one truck i am contemplating when the lease is over on the FX... Nice, thanks for posting... :t-cheers:

I had a good look at it and sat inside it for a while in the motor show. The proportion of the car looks very odd, and it looks like it is going to roll over at any moment. The exterior design is dead boring and extremely conservative. I didn't even realise it is the new Lexus LX570 until I sat inside and saw the new dashboard design.
I must say soft leather covering most of the dashboard and the door felt very expensive but that doesn't give the interior the air of luxury or elegance.

The build quality of the Lexus is at its usual best but the material quality is a let down. The bottom half of the dashboard has far too manly panels and the plastic feels cheap. The glove box lid feels cheap and it doesn’t really open that smoothly. The plastic trim around the door pull feels cheap, and the design of the buttons and their location is just the same as in a Toyota. All these little details add up to a significant disappointment of the car.

I personally would never take this car over say new Cayenne or X5. It might have some advantages over the competition but when you know there is Cayenne S (57,900 $ in USA) or X5 4.8i (54,500 $ in USA) than you might think again..

Alot of times a key selling point is the third row, and comfort aspect of that, the amount of space and eminities and reliability. For examply, my wife wouldnt feel safe driving the kids in the third row of the X5, the rear door is right there, if something was to happen like an accident, it would be to clese for comfort.... and thats in her opinion....

Hummmm.......how about an......R-class? It doesn't have a lot of supporters in this forum but does an R-class meet your requirements, or something like a Volvo XC90?

Actually, we like the R-Class and that is about as close as she wants to get to a mini-van look :D, we are definatley considering it.. I preffer the R-Class personally.

She likes trucks. Im kinda leaving up to her discretion. Trust me, im not looking to spend $80k on a truck either.... Just contemplating it...

That is good to know, and it is definitely wise to let the wife decide what she wants.
