GT Dies Again: Genaddi To Stop Producing Ford GTX1 Roadsters
If you were on the fence about converting your Ford GT to a roadster, you have only eight months to make up your mind. Genaddi Design, the firm responsible for cutting a GT coupe into a GTX1 roadster, plans to discontinue the conversion this year.
Originally shown as a concept car at the 2005 SEMA show, the GTX1 was later announced as an aftermarket option for production GT’s. At the time, the firm pledged to “limit” itself to building only 600 examples over two years.
Today, only 100 GTX1s have been both ordered and built - far short of the 600 number, but that magic two years have run short. After 2008, the roadster conversions will no longer be offered. Orders will be accepted up through August 31, but on September 1, the drop-top GT, like its coupe sibling is history.
That said, Genaddi plans to remain in the GT market by offering a host of other accessories, including performance upgrades, butterfly doors, and an additional trunk. As neat as those customizations may be, none have the wind-in-the-hair fun - or the sense of style - that the GTX1 did.
