I have a Becker audio 30 radio cassette in my 2000 W220. It has a cassette in the middle and a CD changer in the back.

it looks like this

The question is assuming i am able to get a new wood trim can i convert my radio to a command module similar to this?

1. Is this a plug and play thing or do i need to do some electrical conversions
2. Do i need to do some kind of splicing?
3. Can i keep the trunk mounted CD changer?
4. Assuming that i have the cassette or the command radios can, and if i can, how do i add hardwired iPod connections?
5. The only reason i'm adding the one with the screen is to enable my kids to watch DVD's and if possible iPod VIdeos, since this is my main objective case anyone here have a better idea.

I'm not inclined to the idea of installing after market radios and LCD screens no matter how good they look.

TIA

This can be done..
And ppl over at MBworld have done it..
So register and post this exact thing there.. and i think they will guide you through it:D

I wouldn't put that crap COMAND system in my worst enemy's car. But a Garmin.

That system was CD based, so I can't see you being able to add Ipod or play DVDs. Maybe you can install the later updated version for the 2004 model.

Yep! If there is any possibilty to install, then try to get this one:

I would definitely asked over at mbworld. This command is much better looking, faster etc…but probably this will not work - sadly!

this looks soooo good. Im in the Philippines and the navigation wont work, i actually just want the command to able to watch DVDs on them or videos from an Ipod using an external input or interface and i'm kinda wary of using an after market screen although i know its te easier and cheaper way out

I'd definitely not take the COMAND-I. At least the FL-model, much better and more reliable too.
However, some conversion-kits with "integrated" 2DIN systems could be cheaper, more effective while not looking too aftermarket. All the big players in the market (Pioneer, Panasonic, Alpine, Becker and co) have many 2DIN (it means, as big as a COMAND) systems, and you can easily find wood-conversion kits to adapt them on your W220.

Here some examples:

Another solution would be to keep your Becker, but to add a rear DVD system with screen on the headrest. Looks crap, but it's inexpensive. Some more expensive ones have the screens integrated into the headrests, so it looks good. Some others have the screen installed between the front seats, above the rear of the front armrest. Or a small screen fixed on the roof.

On the roof, like that

In the headrest, like that:

The guys over at MBWorld sure will give you nice explanations to how to realize your project in the most effective way.
