Not sure if this video has been posted before but it highlights how cars have become safer in the last 20 years.

Interesting findings in this test of cars such as the Audi 100 C4, BMW 520i E34 and Mercedes 200 W124 showed they provided superb safety cells and protection. The other cars were all really dangerous and life threatening in frontal collisions.

Its amazing how crash safety has improved in main stream cars in 20 years, if it wasn't for EURO NCAP and other crash testing authorities the improvements wouldn't be so huge. Most cars in 1992 (except Audi, BMW and Mercedes and Volvo) were really dangerous in heavy impacts, scary stuff.

Audi sort of compensated the lack of airbags with a system called Procon-Ten that pulled the steering away from the driver's head and chest in a crash.

Ok, this video is shocking. The difference between how rigid the MB and Audi are with the rest is huge!

I always new (and felt as a passenger) that the W124 is many times more rigid than anything from that era, but I never expected such a difference!

Its amazing that the Mercedes is one of the older cars in that test as it came out at end of 1984, while the others came out afterwards and in case of BMW (1988) and Audi (1991) these were much newer cars but only the Audi looked like its body could offer equivalent rigidity to the made from granite, Mercedes.

This is why the 1990s Mercs were nicknamed tanks. Even when I was 12 I was told that Mercs had higher grade steel than competitors.

What this video does is making me think twice about wanting a "analogue". Not only are theyou scary stuff the limit but fatal in crashes. If I do get anoticed old car, I will not drive it on motorways but restrict it to short journeys.
