The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.

Look like the old one and not as new as the 3er,5er,7er are compared to previous generations. Look like BMw is going the safe route.
 
X5 will follow the E90 3-series formula: almost identical shape with a completely new skin. This is called evolutionary design. ;)

No need for rush and total redesign, since it is only 2nd generation of X5. And the current is a winning horse, so ... Really no need for a revolution. Yet.

Yes - the shape is very familiar, since it is almost identical to the current X5. Styling is contemporary BMW: prominent flame surfacing. FS is not clearly seen on spy pics, but it is there - very prominent.

Front will be very aggressive - very BMWish: "Move out of my way, or I'll gonna eat you".

The back could appear a bit bland - especially due to almost identical shape of rear light clusters - but the graphics are more dynamic: the CELIS LED stripes make the car look lower & wider.

Interior follows the 3er / 5er theme. Materials and fit&finish are on very high level though.

The whole appearance is very fresh, modern & dynamic, with a strong touch of aggressivenss - but still evolutionary. As I said: compare E46 3er to E90 3er.

There is one perfect word describing E70 X5: beefy. Very muscular, powerfull, aggressive, sporty SAV. Narrower greenhouse contributes to even sportier look. If you think Audi Q7 is aggressive, just wait to see E70. And I'm very eager to see test comparisons of on-road performance of AWD systems: quattro vs. xDrive. There is a huge surprise coming on! :D

IMO E70 X5 will be really well received, and it will be an instant hit - again. Despite all the competition.

Btw, if you want a revolutionary and more exciting design you should wait for X6 Sport Activity Coupe or V5 Luxury Sports Cruiser (aka RFK).
 
Are you suggesting that a new xDrive will debut on the E70 X5? And thoughts on the interior anyone?

As already said: interior design will follow 3er / 5er theme. Enhanced iDrive standard. Provisional 3rd row seats optional.

Nice ... looking good ..got the new interior ques but the good thing (imo) is that it isnt as radical as it wouldve been. btw pics taken in Dubai :D

PR coming in July / August 2006. SOP October 2006, market launch US - November / December 2006, Europe January / February 2007.

There are 2 provisional folding seats in the 3rd row - optional. Useful for small children (< 10 years) only.

im sure it will still sell.. but it looks like the child of a rhino and a fish
 
I agree that silver one looks bad, but the black one in the spy pictures looks much better!

EniLab, is that PS anything like the real thing, or is it wrong?

It more or less the real thing.
Front bumper is 100% correct in shape.
Grill too.

But there are some errors in details on headlights & hood. And these details are very important:

1. there are prominent sharp edges missing on the front flanks (right & left) beside the hood cut line. The edges leading from A-pillar to the turn-indicator in a headlight cluster.

2. two inner creases are missing on the central part of the hood - parallel to the existing ones which ends in the upper outer kidney corners; these inner ones ending in the middle upper edge of the kidneys

3. headlights are a bit different in shape - some angles are a bit different (outer part is not so sharp, but more rounded), yet the real ones look much more aggressive

4. there are some little details missing in the headlight cover glass - e.g. in the inner parts beside the grille there should be glass pushed in, creating an edge / crease in the glass - looking like the hood cut continuing in the glass; and a crease which is an prolonged flank edge - leading from A-pillar & ending in the glass.

5. I'm not sure lower parts of a bumper and a lower part of side mirrors will be gray - I saw only black ones till now. But there will be an option to get all black parts in body-color.

All these deatils are also very well seen in the black E70 spy pics I'v posted above (hyperlinks).

And again: the car looks very fresh and crispy IRL. And it makes Q7 look like a mini-bus.

I dunno, its looks okaayyy. The black one looks like a fiesta fusion raised a bit more. Will wait for official pics though but Like artist it will sell no matter how it looks or drives.

Btw, E70 X5 was scooped in Cape Town yesterday (they were shooting pics & video there).

Also: MB was shooting the CL pics there and was also scooped.

I guess we will seen them first in some payable printed automotive magazine - just like we did scooped E92 from shooting in Autocar (or it was What car?) & AutoBild. Later coming to the net.

I do not know who did the scoop - professionals or amateurs.

The team just reported they got caught.
