Quadruple Triumph in Auto Bild Design Award
The most beautiful car in the world
Oct 18, 2006

Walter de Silva, design chief of the Audi brand group, picked up an impressive four prizes at the Auto Bild Design Award ceremony. The Audi TT, the Audi Q7 and the Audi Shooting Brake concept car were victorious in their respective classes. The TT sports coupé celebrated a double success, also being voted the most beautiful car of the past twelve months by the readers of Auto Bild.

There was a choice of 146 cars in seven classes to vote for, along with the overall winner. The Audi models prevailed against some top-calibre competition. The Audi TT took victory in the sports-car and coupé category, the Audi Q7 high-performance SUV in the off-road and SUV class, while the Audi Shooting Brake won through against the other studies and concept cars.

The Audi Q7 has been well received not only by Auto Bild readers, but also by customers. The production capacities for the first Audi SUV model have been increased owing to great demand.

The Shooting Brake Concept provides a further innovative interpretation of the current Audi formal idiom, blending the powerful dynamism of a sports car with a new sense of spaciousness and greater functionality.

The new TT, which has been at dealerships since September, posed a particular challenge to Walter de Silva and his team. Its predecessor is acknowledged as a design icon. The motto of the Audi designers when redesigning the second generation of the TT was “evolution not revolution”, and the TT should be recognisable as such from the start.

On the new TT, the geometric shapes merge fluidly into a uniform whole. A low, narrow greenhouse is supported by slim pillars sitting on broad, powerful shoulders. The base body beneath is compact in appearance, conveying a feeling of confidence and strength. The convex and concave curves of its surfaces lend it the character of an athletic sculpture straining forward.

The front end is more expressive and assertive in appearance. The single-frame radiator grille serves as its defining element. The large air inlets hint at the potential of the engines, and the sharply cut, sloping headlights emphasise the mature appearance of the car. The rear end, characteristic of the TT, conveys power and dynamism through its wide wheel arches. The vote of the Auto Bild readers, who voted the TT as the most beautiful car of the past 12 months, endorsed the work of the Audi designers.

IMO the most beautiful car should be the Ferrari 599, the styling has a hint of aggression, and the styling details are functional as well. Those 2 air vents on the bonnet reminds me of the Daytona. The car has the perfect proportion for a front-mid engine supercar, unlike the SLR. I just dont' like the front of the TT, the grill is set too low, so the nose appear to drop downwards

Concept car of the year belongs to the Saab Aero X. It is just super cool.

Audi TT ....the most beautiful car in the world.

Who are these judges.

I like the Audi TT ...but come on.

BTW monster, I also think the 599 is a worthy contender ...but so is the Porsche 911.

It'a a beautiful car but certainly not the most beautiful in the world.

Agreed! In my books, the most beutiful car in the world, years long, is the one and only... ASTON MARTIN. ;)

:t-cheers:

typical germans to vote on their own brand. ask the italians which car is most beautiful car in the world

:eusa_clap

^^ Agreed Just_me

I like the new TT, but i don't by any means think it should be labled as the most beautiful.

Alfa Romeo Brera is a very ugly car IRL. Surely not better than the TT.

As for Ferrari is concerned , the F430 Spyder is the most beautiful IMO.

50,000 AutoBild readers (so 50,000 Germans of 82 million Germany's population) voted "Most beautiful car in the world".

:t-rot:

It like our polls here. When you put some German cars against some Japanese, Italian, French, American etc ones. So, guess who wins. ;)

Yes, TT looks nice but such accolades are hideuos. Just like many similar reader's polls eg. "BMW voted most innovative brand" or "MB cars voted best engineered vehicles" or "Porsche voted most appealing brand" etc.

Just some polls with no real meaning.

But fun to read, and to pet specific brand fans' egos. :D

OK when you get all six billion people on earth to vote which car is the most beautiful let me know!;) :D

BTW i don't remember you saying anything when 3 series was voted "BEST CAR IN THE WORLD".:eusa_danc

I guess when Audi wins polls have no meaning.

You are BSing. Audi have won many polls, and I never had problems with that.
But this AutoBild poll is a bit overdone: German readers of German automotive magazine have voted German car as the "Most beautiful car in the World".

Eg. "European Car of the Year", "International Engine of the Year", "Best car in the World" etc are voted by INTERNATIONAL jury.

So, how can German readers only voting about "Most Beautiful Car in the World"? :t-hands:

That's my point.

It would be completely different if the title was named eg. "AutoBild's most beautiful car" or "Golden Wheel award for design" etc

But "Most beautiful car in the world" title is a bit overstated. And misleading. Just like your thread title.

Wouldn't be a bit more appropriate to name it "AutoBild readers voted Audi TT "Most Beautiful Car in the World"?

PS: I have no problems with TT and its design, but with this particular poll.

WTH were they smoking when they voted that the best looking car in the world?

the Brera is WAY better looking than the TT.

Let me list cars that look better.

E46 M3
E92 335
new CL
S-klasse
R8
Cayman
Let's not forget the Aston family of cars.

I can list more...LOL

Don't feel so victimize, but I think Eni is right. This is a poll from a car magazine (like he said, only 50,000 people... Germans at that).
If you were talking about Car of the year, Engine of the Year, that kind of stuff, then the title would be appropriate.

The truth is that 50,000 people voted for Audi TT not for a Mercedes or a BMW. Nothing you say can change that.;) :D

True.

That proves Audi is currently most popular brand among Germans. Like MB & BMW were in the past years.

Just like 20 years ago it was odd to see MB's prevail in such polls, and 10 years ago BMW's total victories, today Audi is in the same position. And German sales numbers proves that.
So, cheers to Audi! :t-cheers:

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
