GLC [Spyshots] Spy Photos 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLC (AKA GLK)

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a compact luxury crossover SUV introduced in 2015 for the 2016 model year that replaced the GLK-Class. According to Mercedes-Benz, it is the SUV equivalent to the C-Class.
It's not an excuse as much as following the course as set by the naming alignment. Mercedes basically told you this was happening when they realigned the names. The GLC is now a C-class variant and is leaving the blocky styling to the G range.

That being said, I did just comb over all the sources and they all report that the smaller G won't be here until the second iteration of MFA, which is like 2018-2019. We got a while. Atleast people won't complain the GLC looks like a Subaru Forester like they did with the GLK? :D

It's all speculation as I thought. There is nothing official about a small G and again, that doesn't mean the GLC has to look like a raised station wagon. It could look a little more special or rugged than that, but oh well whatever. It doesn't have to be blocky to look better or more like a SUV so yeah that is an excuse about it needing to make room for this imaginary small G. The GL looks great next to the boxy original G and the GL looks like a SUV should.

Yes. The rumored 2018/2019 GLG/GLB baby-G is supposed to be based on the MFA2 and may be developed with Infiniti as partner, writes Georg Kacher. The release schedule may have slipped a bit. The Ener-G-Force might inspire the styling. :)

Just take the bloody sheets off the back and front! We want to see this baby naked!!:whistle:(y)

Not to say it's a bad design, but looking at SUVs, SAVs, CUVs, and STDs just makes me (for various reasons) sick. I guess I better change my avatar.

The next GLS has to look like this.

Care to explain? I don't think it will...I expect it to have presence but not such that it suggests ultimate off-road prowess. The Bentley Bentayga looks soft and the RR certainly lost its "castle on wheels" look with this current gen...and I'd consider those to be more or less the future GLS's competitors.

The GLS has to form its own look because the competition is getting serious.
The next generation cannot just be an extended ML which it is now. It needs to forge a style to signify its going to be the S-Klasse of the Mercedes-Benz SUV family. BMW are placing the X7 as the 7er of their SAV family and Bentley will have the Bentayga and of course there will still be the Range Rover. Rolls-Royce is all about status which is why it is the ultra luxury brand to have.

Interesting discussion in Geneva about the RR SUV amongst the media in how BMW pulled the rug from under its competitors by making it the size and near price of the Phantom when others will not be able to command that same price unless they equip with priceless bespoke items.
It will be the only ultimate luxury brand SUV available.

The G-Force when brought into more realistic proportions can work as it inherits G-Klasse elements as well as further status therefore providing considerable distance from the extended ML they have today and being more attuned to the status and positioning of the S-Klasse.

Oh I agree with you about distancing itself from the GLE. I just didn't think the G-force styling was the right route. Regardless I see what you're saying.

Although I more or less agree with you, Scott, I still think a new model needs to be added to Merc's SUV line up. To make a true S-class SUV, you need something low volume, with bespoke interior and exterior styling. This would also mean pricing that is in line with the S-class sedan pricing.

As it sits now, the GL is positioned well below that price point ($60K - $ 80K USD for the bread and butter GL350/450 lines) and serves the market well as a 3-row alternative to things like the Escalade, Denali, or eve the LX570/Land Cruiser. Or they could bring something like the V-class to the US to offer that 3rd row alternative vehicle while moving the GL line upmarket.

the next gen gls will likely be the true suv version of the s class
