CLS [Official] Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake (X218)

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
Theophilus Chin came up with a new variant, the CLS Pickup. ;)

My inspiration for this utility coupe:
  1. 2012 Australian International Motor Show – utility coupe is very common down-under.
  2. My previous BMW 6-Series Pickup renderings

Mercedes-Fans mentions some previous MB pickups:

My father (who is from Argentina) told me about those MB pickups, but I had the good luck to never saw one... till today :P

BTW, I LOL'ed to death with the commentary of a brazilian or portuguese guy on Theophilus Chin site:

Você está piorando cada vez mais! você está estragando os modelos ao invés de criar espectativas de outros modelos bons! revise seus conceitos!

"You're getting worse every time! You're ruining designs instead of making expectatives of better ones! Rethink your concepts"

LOL

I fear Gorden Wagener may hire Theo's for his "dream" team :nailbiting:

LOL. Didn't apply to the CLS, but the 6er PU.

Yeah, I know, but was fun none the less :)

Just talked to dad and he confirmed, they used to make the W115 pickup in Argentina. I found an ad in a dutch forum:

He also told me that, as the W115 pickup had a good aceptation, several people did modify the W123 and turn them into pups.
I remember a W123 pup used by a funeral services here in Bolivia, when I was a kid.
On the other hand, I've been twice in Argentina and never saw a W115 nor W123 pup, but saw plenty of Peugeot 504 pickups :P

Regards!

Mercedes-Benz CLS facelift to be unveiled on June 23, on sale mid-September - report
To feature Active Multibeam LED technology

MB Passion is reporting Mercedes-Benz will unveil the facelifted CLS range on June 23, prior to a mid-September market release.

Don't expect any drastic changes as the updates will be modest across the entire CLS range even though Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche said it will be a "new generation." When the second-gen CLS came out in 2010 it was the first Mercedes-Benz to be offered with dynamic adaptive LED headlamps and the technology was taken further last year with the new S-Class that comes with Active Multibeam ILS LED technology which will also find its way inside the facelifted CLS range.

Exterior changes will be limited to mildly modified bumpers and side skirts, along slightly revised headlights/taillights graphics and some subtle changes to the front grille. While the current version comes with a built-in display, the facelifted CLS will adopt a rather controversial free-standing iPad-like screen also seen in the A- and B-Class range. Another modification will consist of an update to the COMAND Online system with NTG 5.0 version.

Engine lineup will be carried over but it should be noted the facelifted CLS is going to be the first U.S.-spec Mercedes-Benz model to be offered with a nine-speed automatic gearbox that made its debut last year in the facelifted E350 BlueTec.

I like this trunk. It would be interesting to know how the wood works in everyday life.
The lastest generation of aluminum oxide coating are really hard wearing. My wood supplier also does wood decking, and once I tried a hardwood sample coated with aluminum oxide polyurethane, I purposedly rubbed a key over it, and couldn't scracht it. (y)

I believe I would never transport anything in this trunk because of fear to damage the wood. And if I do this only with a cover. But it's a great idea with this wood bottom.

^ Yes. Fabian Mechtel from asphaltfrage drove the CLS 250 BlueTEC Shooting Brake and CLS 500/550 SB both with the 9G-TRONIC and liked it. In the brief talk he said it felt quite alright, and the biggest difference he noticed seems to be the low rpms. "5,6" drove the CLS 400 Shooting Brake with the new 3.5 liter BiTurbo V6 and 7G-TRONIC Plus, which he likes just fine. :)

Here's the full report, which goes along with the video:
