S-Class [Official] Mercedes-Maybach S600 (X222)

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.

Interior looks super nice & completely gaudy - fits the car very well. Exterior is "just" an extended version of S-class L. But whose horrible wheels :banghead: ... OMG! ... Completely off! :yuck: Doesn't go with the car's design at all! They are way to classic to fit to such modern exterior / interior design. A misfit of the year, definitely! :wacky:

I like it. Retro looking, and just enough difference from the regular S-Class. Now price it right and it will sell this time.

exactly ......in fact it is critical that they price it sensibly or they may have a rerun of the 57/62

I do not see this new model as a successor to the 57/62 .......I think of it more as the "baby" Maybach in the same way the Flying Spur and Ghost are the "baby" versions of Bentley and Rolls-Royce respectively.

Now the big question is, is this enough to have any real affect on Ghost and Flying Spur sales?

i will be honest .. i am bit underwhelmed, of course this maybach is a superb car, but really ? nothing groundbreaking except longer wheelbase and more luxurious interior..they can do much better than that right ?

Mercedes knows they can't tackle the Phantom and the Mulsanne, so they played it safe and went for a low key alternative to the Ghost models. I don't see this as much of a competitor to the Flying Spur either since that is a much sportier car, the S65 AMG can handle that end. Price it around 200K, but nore more than 250K with options and it will sell IMO.

I would have hoped it would have been a little different in the front and back, but still nice!

Exactly what I was about to say. If they made the front a bit more upright, maybe. Otherwise for all those that want all the trappings of RR or Bentley but with more discretion, their car has arrived.

With the LWB obsession the Chinese have, this car should become extremely popular there. Most likely becoming the biggest market for this car IMO.

Don't worry, the Chinese wealth will buy the most of it.

I like it as a luxury car but I do not see this (purely exterior wise) on the echelon of super luxury sedans such as its predecessor, the Mulsanne or Phantom.

That is a sure thing, someone attended the event brought back some news that some people had ordered it without kowning the price.

Yes I think it should be successful in China. It will be very interesting to see how the Americans respond to it .....I'm sure Daimler must be a little anxious about it.

I would expect some extra exterior treatment though. Like AMG gets more aggressive & sportier kit & trim, S-class Maybach should have got some special exterior details, trim & kit as well (some extra chrome details, different bumpers etc). But I guess that isn't even necessary - the car will sell like hot cakes. Especially in China - where "classic" LWB cars by luxury brands are now standard. So XL (Maybach) & XXL (Pullman) versions make much sense there.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
