E-Class (W213) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
The new E is marvelous, but the standard 4 cyl. engine has really made it difficult to persuade our owner base to take a hard look.

Hey tenmb what issue you having with the 4 cylinder engines ?

I can understand why, it is the mind set of the buyers, they are spending a bit of money, in the case in Australia, we are spending over $100k just for the entry level E 200, people don't want to spend this amount of money just to get a 4 cylinder engine, even if it is sufficient to move the car. Also the sound of the 4 cylinder engine is not very pleasant or refined.

I think the same thing must have happened when BMW changed from a six cylinder to a 4 cylinder for the 328i/528i models, I remember at the time there was complaints from the motoring press mainly due to the engine sound/refinement not matching the previous benchmark inline six in the 330i/530i models and said there is a question whether customers will not be happy with this change in engine configuration.

Perhaps back then, but now the 3 series and the C class are more mainstream than the mainstream cars that it doesn't matter anymore. People worry about the badge on the boot rather than what is underneath the hood. For example I know this guy who bought the most basic 328i you will ever see, small wheels, halogen lights, plastic window and B pillar trim, he bough it because he doesn't want to be seen in a 320i.

I think the same applies to some extend in the mid size luxury car segment, but the customers are less price sensitive than the compact executive car segment.

I know what you mean cause here in South Africa, everyone is driving either a 320i or 320d so it would be better in my opinion to rather buy another model such as 328i/330i or 330d/335i but if a person could afford them just to be different from the crowd. Its the same with the C-class, most models here are C180 and also a few people drive C200 and C220 Blutec, I have only seen a handful of C250 models, not seen any C250 Blutec or C350e models yet.

Why MBUSA didn't launch both the E300 and V6 E400 is beyond me. 60-70K for a 4-cylinder E300 is a bit much. The E43 is going to be to hardcore for a lot of buyers, but we get a E400 Wagon. Not sure what they're thinking.

^Might be the dumb heads who control MBs marketing ideas for the US.
These were the same guys who decided (or played a role in) removing the classic grill from the sport-package.

And they've abandoned the luxury version once again. I've only seen one so far and it's so ugly, I thought it was a base C.

That is just insane.

So it is pretty pointless to get the E400 or the E43 now when they are only going to be for one model year before the new engine is launched?

MBUSA has their head up their ass when it comes to the luxury version, it's like they try to ugly up the car on purpose, when in reality the luxury version should be the pretty one.

When do we see these new engines?

I'll take a E55 please. U.S. market will likely be the E300, E400, E55 and E63. No need for a E500 really. No one bought the old E550.

^^
I'd e surprised if the E400, E500, E55 and E63 are offered in the same markets. Whatever they do, they better not make the E400 too expensive. The market needs more affordable petrol choices.

Hello All members

I finally got a chance to have a short drive in a E 220d.Was at Mercedes Watford the car was a AMG spec I think palladium silver not sure but beautiful color with black interior it was half leather half suede seats looked good and felt good not sure about keeping it clean long term..

Well The ride was a short 15 minute ride could not get onto the freeway as the sales person was in a bit of a hurry and also was peak hour which I think is all day here in UK lol.

The salesman was not really the most enterprising but luckily I know my cars and Mercedes well.

Okay now the drive and the car so well I got into the driver seat set up my settings and ready to go.I didn't even leave the parking lot and I felt wow so smooth and quiet really was amazed by the initial feel of the drive. We drove around Watford and did a few Roundabouts and had some good and bumpy roads which I drive regularly in my E coupe last generation and The W205 c class and I tell you the new E is way way ahead of the C class drive and smoothness and refinement also the E coupe I have is easy to see is now a OLD model car.

New E class is so refined and effortless in the drive I wonder if its even worth spending extra for S class I was really not expecting the drive and ride to be this good.

The new Engine is so so quiet compared to the car I just come out of the C class or the E 220 d this new engine is really very very silent you will never know you driving a Diesel.i couldn't really say about consumption as I had a short drive. The engine is way more powerful then outgoing model and is definatelly a great step up in terms off everything. The new 9g my first time driving with a 9g well I didn't even realise one gear change so I guess that's the point for sure its smoother then the 7g.

The test car interior was with the command screen but it had the anologue dials.would have loved to have tested a car with the optioned digital screen. The interior is beautifull and is very roomy yet cosy perfect place to be for a executive or a famiy. The new touchpad on the steering is ideal took me a few mins to get used to but I think once you have a E class those will be very very handy and will definitely make for safer driving they work well but need bit time as they a bit differnet but very good response.Overall I loved the seats the way you sat in them and the comfort all in all I loved the interior except I feel the analogue dials look bit odd in that amazing interior its as if they designed it lazily so you go and spend extra 800 pounds and get the digital I guess thast MB marketing. The command screen is beautifull and crispy and the parking camera and all the command functions look great.

Exterior well its a familiar Mercedes look yeah I wish the front lights maintained a bit of the dual eye look this is not dual eye look even though MB marketing think it is lol.Exterior is very elegant the side profile I love. The rear is more squared of then the C class and looks very good..Exterior wise the front lights could have been bit more different. The S class is still the king in terms of looks and Design.

All done I would probably go for one next year once they have been used a bit and I can pick up a bargain I would love driving a smooth car like this daily its a pleasure to drive this car.

compared to my c220d I just came out of and stepped into this E well all I can say is if you have the extra money don't waste your time buying a C the E is like owning a S class in terms of drive and refinement and quality..

With quality its overall very well built if I must be hyper critical I would say the plastic in one or two places could have been a grade better other then that I love the NEW E class the ride is brilliant.

That's a very glowing review. I'm tempted to test drive the car but fear I will love and want to buy one!
