2007 Volkswagen Touareg announced

Volkswagen has released some initial photography of the 2007 Volkswagen Touareg SUV ahead of its world public debut at the Paris Motor Show next week. Sporting a new 'face,' revised rear styling, updated interior and seats as well as the Dynaudio sound system as an option, the new Touareg will go on sale early next year.

At the front, the new Touareg features a new grille, bonnet, front wings and bumper, plus new headlights and mirrors. The rear lights, spoiler, bumper and exhaust pipes have also been modified to freshen the 4×4’s appearance. The new Touareg will feature new and revised technology, including ABSPlus and additional ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program) features. The system shortens the braking distance by up to 20% on loose driving surfaces. New features have been added to the ESP, these include Active Rollover Protection (ARP), rain brake support, fading brake support and understeer control logic, which improves the turning behaviour in the event of understeer.

Engine choices in Europe will include a 3.6-litre V6 280 hp gasoline powerplant; 2.5-litre TDI 174 hp diesel; 3.0-litre V6 TDI 225 hp diesel; and the range-topping 5.0-litre V10 TDI with 313 hp. It's unclear how U.S. engine offerings will differ. Images after the jump…

Why a facelift so soon? Didn't it come out like couple of years ago. Is it selling badly?

I'm as shocked as you are. I wasn't expecting this at all!

Can someone post the old picture of the touareg? It seems that the facelift is a subtle one.

Here is a pic. It's not selling very well, and I think it looks outdated but i also think the facelift doesn't do enough.

Even though I like the current Touareg, the new lights and grill are real improvements! :usa7uh:

I think it is slight improvement, but if the car is not selling well, like someone mentioned, I think it would have been more appropriate to make more changes.

Maybe.... but sometimes changing too much can backfire too.

I think the timing of the facelift is just fine. In its current form, the Touareg looks like an SUV take on the old Passat. Attractive, but a style that's derived from VW's old, and now discarded, playbook.

The agressive new lights and grille go a long way to put the Touareg on parity with the rest of the VW lineup. A very good job if I do say so myself.

No more V8?

I'm not so sure about those headlights, but perhaps they'll look better in the metal. Other than that, I think that the facelift freshens the look nicely.

I was expecting this since there were already pictures posted of disguised Touaregs in this forum a few months ago. I think it's timely too - it doesn't feel really early.

That said, I think the Touareg is a fine looking car from the start and the facelift does a little improvement - but then again it lacks a certain dynamism in its lines that makes it look quite dull.

I'm more interested in the improvements to the interior, if any...

Imo, the interior is the best part of T-Reg and it doesn't need any changes except a little bit of "make up"... The exterior on the other side becamed boring and dated and this facelift does help... A bit...

:t-cheers:

But I'm more surprised by the fact that nobody was talking about it, no spy pics... and all of a sudden it shows up in Paris.

We had seen spy pics before. Maybe you didn't notice them.;)

Hmmm ... I don't recall! Maybe I'm just sleepy these days!
