Maxima 2016 Nissan Maxima

The Nissan Maxima is a five-passenger, front-engine, front-drive sedan that was manufactured and marketed by Nissan as Nissan's flagship sedan primarily in North America, the Middle East, South Korea, and China. The Maxima debuted for model year 1982 as the Datsun Maxima, replacing the Datsun 810.

2016 Nissan Maxima revealed, sets exterior design direction of next Sunny

The 2016 Nissan Maxima has been previewed through a TV commercial aired last night during the Super Bowl XLIX. The car’s precursor, the Nissan Sport Sedan concept, was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show 2014.

The car makes up very limited footage in the emotional “With Dad” advertisement, but clearly reveals its front three quarters view and rear fascia. Compared to the current Maxima, the vehicle is a big departure sporting a wide and low stance, a V-Motion front-end with boomerang headlamps, dynamic body side lines, a high deck and floating roof, all of which have filtered down from the concept car.

The Sport Sedan concept also defines the exterior direction of future Nissan sedans and crossovers, and it, with the new Maxima, provides a sense of what to expect from the next generation Nissan Sunny, which we were told will look sporty, by Nissan’s head of design, Shiro Nakamura.

Nissan has not revealed the new Maxima’s specifications, but reports speculate that the car will receive its world premiere at the 2014 New York Auto Show (that kicks off on April 1) while having a 3.5-liter V6 engine with at least 260 bhp on tap.

Though the Maxima’s sales have been on the decline in the last few years in the U.S., as customers increasingly prefer mid-size sedans, former Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer had said the new Maxima would be sold to a wider spectrum of markets including the Middle East and Russia to make a stronger business case.

2016 Nissan Maxima previewed [Interior pics leaked now]

It still uses CVT along with the 3.5l V6 and getting fatter, I'll pass. What Nissan needs to do in order to keep the Maxima as a 4DSC is not to make it big ( like Toyota Avalon), put a 7 or 9 speed tranmission and separate it from being a bigger Altima, then Nissan will have a winner ( could be a big competitor to Acura TLX).

Ok, what is going on with the japanese automotive industry? They need to calm down, relax and stop overdesigning their cars. This is getting ridiculous!

I want something that looks simple. Is this too much?

I like it. This is a design you will love or hate it. I respect Nissan for what they did for this car. Can't wait to see the interior. If you want something predictable nowadays, just go for VW Passat.

It is quite a bold design this new version but then so was the previous Maxima which still looks good and is very popular here in the Middle East. I think this one definitely has influences of the Sunny in the back lights which I am not sure that I like very much. I will wait for better pics of front and back headon as well as interior before I give my final judgement

I remember the first generation Maxima in the 1980's. It was marketed as a "4 door sports car". Recent generations have become too bloated, and relatively underpowered for its size.

Nissan should pick Audi as the benchmark for their FWD cars. Maxima should be the best FWD that Nissan can offer. Maxima should not have a CVT, and I don't care how good that transmission can be. It's not the right way for a 4DSC that Nissan wants it to be. So Nissan, please listen to your Maxima fans.

Looks a bit too curvy but great. Maxima is one car, Nissan don't go wrong with, most of the times.

However, I do see a lot of Mazda6 in there.

Oh my oath! What is going on in the styling studios of Nissan and Infiniti?!? Is the idea to make the design deliberately incoherent?

A car's design needs to flow and this one does - only problem is that it's flowing from all directions at once! It's like looking at clothes tumbling slowly in a washing machine on the delicates cycle.

Guys, please go to carscoops.com to check out 5 new pictures of the new Maxima. It's not that bad. Now we only need to see the interior.

Terrible, terrible!!! :sick::sick::sick::poop::poop::poop::pukeface::pukeface:
I just hate Nissan new design language (Qashqai, Xtrail, Murano) but this takes one step further. I agree with Giannis, wtf is going on Japan? All these new fugly Lexus, Infinitis, Nissans.... I don't like korean cars, but I wish them the very best luck and hope they steal every possible sale from Nissan/Infiniti and Toyota/Lexus, for making these atrocious cars.

It's a car designed for Americans, what do you expect. It was styled by Nissan Design American in San Diego, these guys are responsible for the Altima, Maxima, Xterra, and Frontier, as well as the 370Z.

Designed by American for Americans.

Certainly got unique and distinctive design features, I don't think I have seen a car with front headlights like that. I would be interested to know how it looks from headon. The back lights I am not sure of, not a big fan of the Jaws open mouth look of them. It has Mazda 6 similarity with the front fender line and shape. The back doors window shape is almost the same as the Kia Optima.

I certainly agree. It has about 150 distinctive design features. It should have about 5.
At least it is not a boring design, you could probably walk around the car the whole day and talk about each different design feature. I feel sorry for the designers when they need to do a facelift of this car, they will probably have to smooth out all those sharp edges after getting feedback from the potential future customers/buyers!!

I am surprised that many of you have strong opinion about the new Max. Even though it 's not as good as the new MB W205, but at least it's not that bad ,in my opinion. What I am hopeful for , is a new 4 cyl turbo engine along with a geared transmission and well tuned suspension. Nissan should make the new Max as a FWD version of Infiniti.

How dare you even compare the 205 to the Maxima!
Calm down my man. I only talk about styling, not comparing between a RWD and FWD. I have owned 2 Maximas in the past (1989 and 1995 models). My next car is W205. So you know where I am going, that's why I join this forum.By the way, both my Maximas last over 200K miles before I sold them.
