E-Class W213 [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
I think Mercedes Benz will steal the show with all its new vehicles, crowds will gather around the new E-class like the nostalgia when the W124 was shown at 1985 Geneva show.

^ I am basically a fan of old Mercedes cars.....anything before W210 E class. I strongly feel that if W126 or W124 are introduced today these cars would still create nostalgia. Such was their powerful and sublime designs and no Mercedes of today can match these classics. Looking at the W222 S class, I am not expecting the upcoming E class to topple the S in terms of design attractiveness, as the pinnacle of current design language has already been out.

Hmmm, forgot to comment this. It looks less copy paste than I was expecting. That W204-ish rear end looks quite nice.

I hope the W213 is a round product, the next 5er and A6 will probably come stronger than ever, and the W212 has been a let down compared to the F10 and current A6 IMO.

Mercedes E-Class spied wearing significantly less disguise

The 2016 / 2017 Mercedes E-Class has been spied wearing significantly less disguise.

Set to be introduced sometime next year, the redesigned sedan follows in the footsteps of the C- and S-Class as it upscale styling that closely echoes its brethren. Starting up front, we can see a rounded front fascia with a two-bar grille that is flanked by familiar headlights. The déjà vu design continues out back as the rear end mirrors both the aforementioned models.

The interior eschews the straight lines of its predecessor for a flowing dashboard with circular air vents and a large infotainment system. We can also see a three-spoke steering wheel, gloss black trim and metallic accents.

Mercedes has been tight-lipped about performance specifications but the model is slated to ride on the company's new MRA platform which should help the car weigh between 70 - 150 kg (154 - 330 lbs) less than its predecessor.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but will likely be shared with the C- and S-Class. This mean we can expect an assortment of familiar four-, six- and eight-cylinder options.

I'm betting we won't get the new I6 for the first model year, which would make these engines available in the 2018 model year for the U.S. market. I will be good and ready by then. I sure hope they ditch the naturally aspirated 3.5L V6. That thing has to go. I'd like to see:

E320 - 255hp - turbo I6 - Competes against the 528i and A6 2.0t.
E400 - 340hp - turbo I6 - Competes against the 535i and A6 3.0t.
E450/E500 AMG Sport - Turbo I6 with 450hp - Competes against the 550i, S6 etc.
E63 AMG - 4L AMG V8, 600hp. No base or S, just one potent car and an optional S Package like the old development package, not a separate model. This "package" would make 640hp and set the car up for serious track duty.

Am I the only one seeing the headlights wrapping into the grille? Could be just the camo. I like the proportions, interior and rear. But it´s just a shame that MB uses the EXACT same headlights for the entire portfolio.

Is it just me or do the taillights look different on these newest photos compared to the "L" version a few posts above? The newest batch of photos suggests headlights and taillights that are spitting images of what's offered on the W205.

This is quickly becoming the best looking E since the 124, and that on top of the fact that the FL 211 and 212 are some of my favorites too! ;) Just my opinion.

What exterior colors are expected, besides Iridium and Selenite?

I, too, was hoping for the I6 right out the gates. I love the proportions though.
I've read rumors the I6 diesel engines will be there from the start. This being however only interesting for the European market. Proportions are, indeed, absolutely great. You can see it's length of almost 5 metres. When it's drive is comfortable enough, for spoiled people like me, the engines are right and it can be specced with just about 'everything', this car is going to be a serious threat to S-Klasse buyers who drive their cars themselve.

This is quickly becoming the best looking E since the 124
Bingo!
