E-Class W213 [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
MB Passion has the latest update for us. :)

The W213 will follow the C-Class and S-Class interiors to some extent, with two equally large 12.3" screens and three selectable display styles, four round nozzles on the center dash below the display similar to the S Class, and a new touchpad without clickwheel. Mirror Link may also be new, as well as Android and Apple Car Play and the steering wheel is to receive functions for scrolling through the menus.

Also new is a ParkPilot, automatic parking via smartphone, as well as new features for connect me / mbrace and a speed limit pilot. In addition, an improved occupant protection "PreSafe 360 deg" is expected.

The exterior of the sedan may grow about 55 mm in length compared to the 212 series, while offering shorter overhangs and a longer wheelbase. Two different front grilles will still be available and the "Four-eye-face" is said to be still recognizable in the headlights. The new 6-cylinder OM 656 already starts with the launch of the W213 series, and its maximum power may reach up to 250 kW / 340 PS. The wagon should follow about 6 months later. Translated from MB Passion.

Don't think the W213 is delayed, Mr. Mercedes, since the introduction to the market at the dealerships is still scheduled for March 2016 and seems to be on time. The inline six diesel may now be in preproduction in Stuttgart Untertürkheim according to MB Passion. Here's a video of its bigger brother, being produced in Mannheim. :)

Next generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan will likely debut in January 2016 at NAIAS [spy video]
E-Class wagon coming six months later
A reliable source from Germany is indicating the next-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be show in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January 2016.

The W213 generation is being put on a strict diet by the engineers as the switch to the MRA platform will enable a weight loss estimated between 70 and 150 kg (154 and 330 lbs). We've been hearing plenty of rumors about straight-six engines and apparently the first of the bunch will be a twin-turbo 2.9-liter diesel with 313 bhp (233 kW). There also might be a quad turbo version (with two e-turbos) to enable an output of more than 400 bhp (298 kW).

If that surpasses your needs, the entry-level E-Class is expected to use a new 1.6-liter turbodiesel with 122 bhp (91 kW). Mercedes-Benz is also cooking up a couple of hybrids using an electric motor teamed up with a 2.0-liter or a V6 engine, depending on market.

The sedan will be the first to come out in January at NAIAS and should be available on order shortly thereafter. The wagon (T-Model) will join the range about six months later while the cabrio, coupe and CLS models will be added to the lineup later on.

MB is putting it's money on LED, but is not developing a Laser tech system either?

Well, I have not seen any news regarding MB laser tech, nor remember having seen Audi or BMW working on a newer LED tech.

Unless Wolfgang says otherwise, no.

However, reading all those presentation slides - Audi, BMW and MB all talk about range of 600 meters, regardless of the technology used. Meaning, MB is probably not in the rush to develop Laser lights from the ground up, and save some money by further developing LEDs, but still staying competitive.

EDIT: And just as I posted this, I saw Mr. @DJRaze99 posted this in W222 topic:

Laser light is fully overrated. What advantages brings me a static laser light that shines over 600 metres as opposed to the ILS of MB, with all it's functions and possibilities?
