E-Class (W213) [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.

MB Passion

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's dated. Just that with the new direction of "floating" screens, it is behind the curve. But that same is true for the 5er. So, it's in line with its competitors. Which is fine.
Nah man, it's not it. I had a rental 528i and I felt like home in it. Everything was right.
Hard to say that about my friend's E350.

Concept of next E-Class due in September
Mercedes-Benz used the word "imminent" when talking about the launch of their autonomous driving technology.

According to company boss Dieter Zetsche, Mercedes-Benz's efforts as far as autonomous driving tech will soon be seen on a production car, thus hinting the model in question will be the next generation E-Class due in 2016. Before that, the Daimler-owned marque will apparently present a concept in September at Frankfurt Motor Show which will preview the highly anticipated mid-size model. Zetsche said the tech will revolve mostly around highway driving and parking.

The technology will probably feature an evolution of the Highway Pilot system demonstrated last year in the Future Truck 2025 concept. This means the next E-Class will be able to drive itself up to a certain speed (85 km/h in the truck’s case) on highways and should brake, change lanes and even perform overtakes on its own. Moreover, the W213 generation should also autonomously park itself without the necessity of having a driver behind the wheel.

Autonomous parking? If it can drive around and find a parking spot, then yeah I get it. If it's like the new 7-series system then it's really just a marketing 'wank'.

The systems in the current cars are so temperamental and slow, and the risk of curbing your expensive alloys so high, they're pretty much useless. I've used its probably 2-3 times in 2 years of driving MB's and Audi's with it.

^ Suspect the new stuff may simply extend Active Parking Assist, without using a driver. :)

So as I suspected, pretty much useless. I'd rather be in the car and have the opportunity to stop the thing bashing itself than standing by watching helplessly. :p

^ Maybe it let's you sit in there, pretending not to be present? :)

Suspect the other new feature may extend the Distronic Plus with Steer Assist, so the MB can pass on the highway, like the Future Truck 2025.

Distronic Plus with Steer Assist is what I am interested in. It is the next big step in Autonomous driving and something no other competitor currently offer

Distronic plus with steering assist is available on the current W212 already since the facelift. Even before the new S-Class.

The technology Wolf is taking about is the one in which the car will automatically change lanes on a motorway and overtakes the car in front. It's not currently offered in any cars AFAIK

Yes. It might be called "Highway Pilot". We'll see. :)

Along the road to autonomous driving and accident-free motoring, Mercedes-Benz is continuously developing more assistance systems and getting them ready for series production step by step. Innovations currently undergoing testing include a "Highway Pilot" that enables automated driving at higher speeds on the motorway. Mercedes-Benz engineers are furthermore working intensively on automatic parking systems. F015 Luxury in Motion press release dated January 06, 2015

To me. That's really not that far off from E. I do like the 5er interior better, don't get me wrong. But it's not like 5's interior made the E instantly outdated.

Move over w212. Time for w213. W213 definitely have a huge leapt over w212 in terms of interior design. And I am quite relieved that they do away with the pop up display

Don't like the interior of the bmw.
The E however looks much better, nicer buttons and no gear stick makes for much more open environment.
that's just my opinion.
