E-Class W213 [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
I hope E63 will be available with classic MB grille and star on the hood (standard or optional). It looks much better than that hole they used in C63:

E63, S63 and S65 (sedans) should keep classic MB grille. Hole between headlamps is ok for other AMGs.

Agree. When I see these spy pics I think these renders might be a good indication about where the design is going:

This is very so-so IMO. So bland and standard people are going to think it has debuted old already.

That does look like it. I just hope the headlights and taillights are not a copy-paste job like the S and C. And yes they are going back to a single taillight ala W211. It seems they alternate between the single and split taillight on the E, but not on the S or C.

PS
I'm tired of complaining about the halogens in the headlights and taillights by now. Can't believe MB is getting away with it.

As long as they are selling E-Klasses to entry customers , business, police and government and local government fleets.
Halogen lights will remain.

there is only one worry about this car, that is in addition to people pointing out the similarities between the S and C, however also the renders and prototypes are worryingly indicating a wedge profile, I am just hoping and praying that what I am seeing in them photos or footage of this E does not make it into the real car, because that will be a big letdown, IMO the wedge profile has had it's time and no longer has any place at MB design, which is thankfully no longer evident going by recent models like the C, S etc.

just to add I am an anti-wedge person!!!!

finally there ism relief!!!!, it is quite humorous that just after I posted my previous comment, I see these very promising shots, which invalidate my speculations of a wedge profile, clearly on closer inspection of these photos it can be seen that the profile would be anti wedge, and not sloping in a crazy manner towards the front, also a first proper look at the greenhouse, which appears to be a beauty, it cleverly takes it a step up from the C although it reserves some resemblance with it.

So... Same headlight design than the rest of the line up. Front end seems to be a mix between the S-Class and the C-Class. Probably will end up looking like a C-Class with huge grille like the S-Class.

Agree, I am sure it will be a nice looking Mercedes but the E-class as traditionally receive its own styling identity so MB's styling effort is starting to be very underwhelming.

All Mercedes-Benz models will be receiving designs that hold a strong family resemblance. However, this W213 differentiates itself from the C-Class and S-Class by not incorporating the dropping line.
IMO this differentiation isn't enough when the front and rear end design are extremely similar.

Is not that the E-Class is not having the dropping line. Both the C-Coupe and the E-Class feature a more subtle dropping line, which is still dropping, but features the door handles on it. And based on these spy pics, makes the profile look bland and graceless. At least if the AB render is any good indication.

Everything BUT the shoulder line looks more in line with the E-mules. That style of alloy and the 4 eyed headlights are defining E-class features as well. Perhaps this was an early clay of the E, and the final product was given a straighter character line.

I recall we already have had a debate about this clay model in the W205 thread. It was one of the finalist 1:1 designs for the W205 http:///2014/07/die-design-entwicklung-zur-neuen-c-klasse/
