XC90 [Official] 2015 Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002. The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken in Sweden. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic (or Volvo XC90 Classic). In late 2022, the electric-only EX90 was introduced as the successor of the XC90. However, in September 2024, Volvo launched the second facelift of XC90, and stated that both models would be sold together.
Well, I didn't expect this level of attention to detail and design from Volvo, I can see evidence of Swedish design ingenuity.
Reminds me to this:

:)

Good reference. Volvo have clearly taken inspiration from private jet interiors and first class seating arrangements in large aircraft. The atmosphere in the XC90 is very welcoming and is devoid and the authoritarianism that you see in the Maybach which is more inspired by an executive office chair.

Sat in it today, its very Swedish, nice wood and added chrome is virtually high end detailing you would get on a bespoke Rolls-Royce or Bentley.
Rumour points to a new concept sedan at the IAA in Frankfurt this September. With the same level of detailing the sedan could become a very interesting alternative indeed.

I've always disliked Volvos, as they seem to attract them who can't stay on their lane and just dream around in traffic. Dislike especially the XC90 as I see an ugly, dull, grayish green one every day taking up half of my parking spot forcing me to go park elsewhere. Feel so dull to drive and look at as well, comfortable, but dull.

Still, I just can't find myself disliking that Excellence concept. Some nice looking detailing and ideas there. Didn't think Volvo had it in them. Just don't understand the point in tinted windows, as the one sitting in the back will be quite so visible through the front windows anyway.

Volvo XC90 Excellence four-seater brings some style to Shanghai

Volvo XC90 Excellence at Auto Shanghai 2015

Has ventilated individual rear seats with massage function
Volvo is displaying these days in Shanghai the higher specification XC90 Excellence four-seater SUV.

One of the most stylish and elegant cars in its segment just got even more desirable as Volvo has turned the XC90 into a four seater by axing the rear bench and installing individual ventilated seats with massage function. In addition, rear legroom has also been improved and those sitting in the back are pampered with heated and cooled cup holders, folding tables, crystal glasses and a refrigerator.

The entire cabin now benefits from extra noise insulation to keep the interior as quiet as possible, and for the same reason Volvo have installed Pirelli noise-cancelling tires. The interior ambiance should be great thanks to an impressive Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 19 speakers and there's also an ionic air cleaner system providing fresh air by positively charging electrons in airborne particles to keep dust and smoke outside the cabin.

Set to be available globally in select markets, the Volvo XC90 Excellence will be further distinguishable thanks to a leather-wrapped instrument panel with contrasting thread along with a pure Nubuck textile for the headliner. Not a lot have changed on the outside, but the high-end SUV has received chrome B and C pillar cappings, "Excellence" badges and lower door mouldings.

There has to be a better location to film a review than stopping and standing in the middle of a winding mountain road.

I really wish the company who imports Geely into my country brings Volvo back, after decades of absence. They're a big consortium which also distribute Suzuki, Chevy, Renault and Mazda along some Chinese brands. They have excellent prices in all their brands, thousands less than rival companies, so I guess if they decide to bring Volvo, I could get one at a realistic price, and not overly inflated like other premium brands are :(

22- and 23-inch alloys available

Heico Sportiv is previewing their cosmetic kit for the second generation Volvo XC90.

Those who are not too fond of the R-Design XC90 and can't wait for the Polestar versionmight want to give Heico Sportiv a call as they have a styling package tailored to the new stylish SUV from Sweden. Their new full body kit comes with a custom front spoiler with a central plastic lamella mesh while at the back there's a new skirt with an upper section and a mesh lower layout.

The vehicle is wearing a matte black paint/wrap and has four integrated exhaust tips while an optional exhaust system is available with a Selected Sound system to digitally enhance the soundtrack provided by the T6 engine, but later on other units will be offered with this technology which they say can mimic the sound of a V8.

In addition, Heico Sportiv has prepared 22- and 23-inch custom forged wheels which despite being bigger than the ones provided by Volvo these are approximately 15% lighter. The 22-inch wheels come with 285/35R22 tires while the larger 23-inch set can be optionally delivered with 315/25 R23 ContiSportContact 5P rubbers.

The tuner also has power kits tailored to the D4, D5, T5 and T6 engines, along with a lowered suspension kit and an interior cabin customization program.

I am currently in Gothenburg and have see a few XC90s in everything from black and white to silver and champagne. My favourite one was the champagne and the black. In those colours the car is very elegant without coming across as imposing. The ground clearance and reasonable sized rims make it look tall and proud. If you want and executive car or a classy fmsily car then this is it.

However if you are in a market for a "cool" SUV that will make you look edgy and on-the-money then this is not the car.

Volvo Cars’ Robin Page voted Interior Designer of the Year at the 2015 Automotive Interiors Expo

Robin Page, Head of Interior Design at Volvo Car Group, has been chosen from a list of highly distinguished automotive designers to receive the Interior Designer of the Year Award. The judging panel also awarded the new Volvo XC90 with the title "Interior Design of the Year – Production Vehicle".

Presented at the Automotive Interior Expo Awards 2015 in Stuttgart on June 16th, the awards reflect the huge strides forward that the Volvo Cars’ brand has made in pure design terms with the launch of the XC90.

“I am humbled by this award. The interior design of the XC90 reflects a paradigm shift for Volvo Cars. At Volvo Cars we focus on creating an overall luxury life experience. This means using natural materials such as wood, leather and crystal in a way that delivers calmness and serenity to the driving experience,” said Robin Page, Vice President Interior Design at Volvo Car Group.

Earlier this year the Volvo Design team was awarded the prestigious Red Dot Design ‘Best of the Best’ Product Design Award for their work on the XC90, beating almost 5,000 other products across 31 product categories.

“As we take the Volvo design language forward we are very much aware of our heritage. Safety, quality and environmental care are fundamental building blocks of Volvo cars. So everything we do must deliver these brand promises. Without delivering these elements you cannot possibly deliver a sense of wellbeing in a car’s interior. First comes safety, then comfort and then overall luxury experience. These elements combine to deliver a sublime experience unlike any other in the luxury car segment,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President, Design at Volvo Car Group.
