Mercedes yesterday unveiled to the world their new 2008 Accessory range for the new-generation SLK, perfect for those of you looking to add even more functionality and personality to an already extremely capable and dynamic model.

While in my modest-yet-sagacious opinion some of the optional equipment should already have been included with the new models (namely the Bluetooth telephone module and iPod interface kit), other available accessories include incenio designer wheels; chrome accents on the exterior mirrors, bumper and radiator cross fins; Alustyle carrier bars which compliment a ski and snowboard rack, bike rack or roof boxes; and a "limited edition" draught-stop, of which only 1,171 will be produced.

There's a few other accessories as well, all of which are available for ordering via authorized Mercedes-Benz partners.

Mercedes-Benz SLK accessories 2008: Unlimited individuality

Stuttgart – In the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz SLK, the striking design and powerful engines place the focus very much on the dynamism and sportiness of the Roadster. The extensive range of genuine accessories from Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH is designed to add a highly individual touch to this trend-setting car.
Driving pleasure and enjoyment are at the heart of the 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK accessories range. The latest selection of products, featuring exclusive wheels, glamorous chrome exterior elements, practical telematics modules and ingenious items that make optimum use of the space on board not only ensure a powerful and sporty look but unlimited individuality too.

The wide selection of incenio designer wheels 1) helps give every SLK its own individual feel – adding a whole new dimension in brilliant sterling silver. The 18-inch Korsunia wheel, with its five slender triple spokes, has a particularly dynamic look. It is available in size 7.5 J x 18 ET 36 with size 225/40 R18 tyres for the front axle and 8.5 J x 18 ET 30 with size 245/35 R18 tyres for the rear. The 17-inch Kikuchi wheel, with its five twin spokes, is equally distinctive. It is available in size 7.5 J x 17 ET 36 with size 225/45 R17 tyres for the front axle and 8.5 J x 17 ET 30 with size 245/35 R17 tyres for the rear.

The elegant look is reinforced by attractive eye-catching chrome features, including trim for the radiator cross fins, bumper and exterior mirrors plus door handle recesses 2) which also help protect the paintwork from scratches. Valve caps and the hub caps in sterling silver with a chrome star add a subtle finishing touch.

Carrier systems for sporty individuals

Mercedes-Benz acknowledged the needs of sports-loving SLK fans and demonstrated its pioneering role once again by developing a versatile roof-mounted carrier system for the previous model of the SLK. The New Alustyle basic carrier bars are precision-tailored to the SLK’s vario-roof and are easy to attach to the A-pillar and rear of the vehicle. Before the bars can be installed, the vehicle must be fitted with the optional extra “pre-installation for carrier systems”, which can be ordered ex factory.

The ski and snowboard rack for up to six pairs of skis or four snowboards and the bicycle rack for up to three bikes are not the only items that can be secured in place on these carrier bars. The robust, aerodynamic roof boxes, which have a capacity of between 330 and 450 litres, are designed to be secured in place by the system too.

Open-top driving with every comfort

The great attention to detail which characterises the accessories range continues in the interior. For outstanding ride comfort, draught-free open-top enjoyment and reduced wind noise – even at higher speeds – there’s a “Limited Edition” draught-stop. Only 1,171 are to be produced. The three-piece set can be precision-fitted in a few simple manoeuvres, without the aid of additional tools, and when not in use, it can be stowed away in the protective nylon bag provided. The transparent centre section, made from polycarbonate, has a special coating which enhances its scratch-resistance. Another interior highlight is the set of illuminated door sill panels made from brushed stainless steel: the blue Mercedes-Benz lettering lights up every time the door is opened.

Unlimited freedom

The Bluetooth® telephone module (SAP) 2) makes life easier for those who like to use their phone a lot when they’re out and about. The mobile can simply be left in a jacket pocket or handbag; once it has been paired with the module, the wireless Bluetooth® connection to the vehicle is established automatically. Thanks to SAP (SIM Access Profile) the telephone module automatically accesses the SIM card. It can also access data on the internal phone memory, such as stored phone numbers. The user can therefore access his or her own data directly, including stored contact details. Thanks to on-board integration, the telephone functions can be operated using the multifunction steering wheel, the audio system and the central display in the instrument cluster, for convenience and enhanced safety.

The Media Interface is the ideal choice for music fans. The interface for the telematics optional extra (Code 518) is located in the glove compartment. Music devices can be hooked up to the iPod®, USB or AUX outlet using the Media Interface consumer cables and operated via the car’s audio system. A separate iPod® Interface Kit is also available, allowing the Apple iPod® to be operated using the multifunction steering wheel by integrating the player into the on-board audio system – for full sound enjoyment, even when driving with the top down.

In a quick follow up to our last post, Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH has released a collection of accessories which again aim to complement the new SLK roadster. This time, however, as opposed to accessories which actually are equipped on your SLK, this collection is geared towards the fashion-savvy among you, ensuring that your personal style and your new vehicle's style form a cohesive blend of casual elegance and subtle "sportiness."

Accessories available in the collection include cashmere pullovers, baseball caps, silk scarves, sunglasses, key rings and luggage, among other things, with several of the items showcased below. Mercedes-Benz SLK arrives in style: Sporty, dynamic personal accessories

Stuttgart – To accompany the launch of the dynamic new Mercedes-Benz SLK, Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH is introducing a diverse collection of accessories which underline the sporty character of the Roadster. In addition to three special product lines in black, red and brown, the range includes exclusive fashion items, an extensive range of watches and sunglasses, luggage items in contemporary colours and styles and practical travel accessories.

The high-quality cashmere pullovers, made from finest wool, are a must for any stylish wardrobe. Available in fashionable black or champagne they can be combined with a whole range of items to create a variety of looks. The cotton polo shirts, favourite all-rounders, are equally indispensable. The men’s version comes in sporty navy or fashionable lilac, while the women’s is an elegant champagne shade. When it comes to business attire, two genuine classics are available for that effortlessly superior look: the slightly fitted, short-sleeved blouse and the easy-iron men’s shirt, with long or short sleeves, ensure that the daily question of what to wear is one that’s quickly answered. The dark blue silk tie with its fine lilac stripes adds a stylish finishing touch.

For sporty types and fans of open-top driving the cotton baseball caps, available in various colours, are a must. The embroidered emblem on the front gives them a highly distinctive look, and silver-coloured thread lends a further hint of luxury to the champagne-coloured satin cap. The men’s padded gilet complements the sporty look. This lightweight item keeps the wearer warm whatever the weather, making it ideal for open-top SLK drives during the cooler months.

The unisex aviator’s watch features an attractive combination of stainless steel and leather. The distinctive rotating bezel and the glow-in-the-dark hands also make this a highly practical accessory for everyday use. The other watches in the collection also reflect a sporting spirit and a tremendous attention to detail, particularly the driver’s chronograph watch and the unisex watch, available with a black or green strap. Other highlights include a selection of intricate women’s watches, studded with fine-cut Swarovski crystals.

The various exclusive sunglasses feature high-quality Zeiss lenses, for perfect protection whatever the time of year as well as a stylishly casual elegance. The popular unisex frames in robust acetate are available in a choice of versions – in black, blue or havana. The retro-style mother-of-pearl-effect women’s sunglasses have a look that stands out from the crowd.

Other eye-catching items include a selection of key rings in various designs. The SLK key ring with laser-engraved Mercedes-Benz logo is particularly unusual and distinctive. The letters SLK are cast in solid zinc and are a replica of the lettering featured on the boot lid.

Tailor-made luggage ideas

Intelligent products ensure that, even in the sporty Roadster, there’s plenty of room for luggage. The SLK suit cover, for example, made from high-quality ballistic nylon with a strong leather flap and magnetic fastener, is designed to be hung on the back of the seats, saving space, and holds up to three items of clothing, preventing them from being creased during the journey. The bag for the SLK boot, with its practical castors, is made from ballistic nylon – a water-repellent and particularly tear-resistant, crease-resistant and easy-care material – making it ideal for any journey.

The perfect choice when it comes to functionality and aesthetics is the small upright business case in classic black. Measuring 38 x 50 x 20 centimetres, it is the smallest of a series of four wheeled luggage items. The women’s luggage range comes in a contemporary champagne shade. The vanity case, which slots into place on top of the wheeled suitcases, provides plenty of space for cosmetics and personal items. A selection of practical yet attractive items – a washbag, holdall and laptop bag – exclusively made for Mercedes-Benz by Samsonite, rounds off the luggage range.
