SLK/SLC Official SLK Facelift Info+Photos

The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a compact executive roadster, produced by Mercedes-Benz. It was released in 1996 and was built at the Mercedes plant in Bremen, Germany, until the end of production in 2020. The former name "SLK" was derived from sportlich (sporty), leicht (lightweight), and kurz (short). With the release of the facelift R172 in 2016, the SLK-Class was renamed to SLC-Class in accordance with the revised nomenclature adopted by Mercedes. Under this scheme, roadsters use the base name "SL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy, the letter "C", being the roadster equivalent to the C-Class.
Re: Offical SLK Facelift Info+Photos

Uh oh this is right then I have lost a bet on MBWorld about their being a SLK63. I don't get why they wouldn't up the power to at least 400hp from the Black Series version????

Could it be we're going to see the SL, SLK and GLK at Detroit? Sounds like a bit too much for Motown, but we'll see.

Re: Offical SLK Facelift Info+Photos

Yeah I agree with you. It was a bit disappointing to see the 5.5 V8 isn't being replaced by the 6.2 V8 engine, and it is even more disappointing to see the power of the 5.5V8 remains the same as before. The normwl MB 5.5 V8 produce even more power than this, so AMG really should give the new car more power.

Another thing I have noticed is that the new SLK55 AMG come with 4 piston front caliper and 2 piston rear caliper. The older version uses 6 piston front and 4 piston right? So does the new caliper offer the same swept area as the older brakes? I would think the brake pads aren't as large as before.

I tried to give you a "heads up" by posting my MBUSA dealer release info last week only here and not on MBWworld. If it's any consolation, I was as shocked as you when I learned of the 55 perpetuation in the SLK. My only guess would be it's a fit issue, pending the adoption of the Euro regs on the SLK.

Re: Offical SLK Facelift Info+Photos

...I think that this engine makes more sense for the SLK...u don't need to stuff the 6.3 unit into every AMG model...

I guess but MB's new 5.5 V8 has more power than the current AMG modified old 5.4 V8 used in the SLK55.

Re: Offical SLK Facelift Info+Photos

but man really think about it..its a damn small car
it can not have 500 hp..
its crazy..

even 400 is near insanity

Re: Offical SLK Facelift Info+Photos

Can someone fix up my little typo. Suppose to be official not offical.

Re: Offical SLK Facelift Info+Photos

Wow, now that is hot. MB has somehow made this already good looking car even better. Good job MB design department.

Re: Offical SLK Facelift Info+Photos

The SLK facelift looks awesome. It makes the car more aggressive - this is what I wanted a SLK to look like. Can't wait to see the data for the new 3.5 litre engine. This is going to be an awesome car. :D
Hehe, maybe I can persuade my Dad to make a testdrive with it, when it is released - back to SLK feeling. ;)
Want to go to the dealer now, and see it in reality. But I have to be patient...

Looks good. But I can't tell the difference between the normal body kit and the one on the AMG besides the quad pipes.

What you're referring to is the normal SLK but with the AMG package. If you look on the bottom left of the picture it says: Optional Extras.

I like the AMG version , a lot but the last pics posted by Artist on normal SLK is a disappointment but the AMG, WoWahha :usa7uh:

It was one of the prettiest cars on the road but that hasn’t stopped Mer*cedes updating its SLK. And these official pictures show what the new model looks like. With a host of cosmetic changes inside and out, extra kit and a more powerful V6, the revised two-seater is taking the fight to the Porsche Box*ster and Audi TT Roadster.

The striking drop-top gets an even more dramatic front end. It continues to mimic the look of McLaren-Mercedes’ Formula One car, while the lower bumper is split into two sections. A range of new alloy wheel designs is available, while at the rear, updated tail-lights complete the fresh look.

The convertible’s folding metal roof is carried over unchanged, but it opens to reveal a modified interior. The current model’s silver-clad centre console has been replaced by a more subtle unit with dark plastics, while there are new trim colours available. Comfort has been boosted by reshaped seats which feature new lumbar supports, while Mercedes has added an upgraded sat-nav system, which will come as standard on top-spec models.

Under the bonnet, the SLK gets a new 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine. Exact performance figures will be released closer to the car’s launch in the spring, but it’s expected to be about 10bhp more powerful than the existing 268bhp unit. It should propel the car from 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds, but will deliver improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions, too.

The rest of the engine range is unchanged, with the 161bhp 2.0-litre supercharged SLK 200K, 228bhp 3.0-litre V6 SLK 300 and 355bhp 5.5-litre V8-engined SLK 55 AMG all on offer. Prices will be revealed closer to the launch, but there are unlikely to be any significant increases. The range will kick off at just under £30,000. [www.autoexpress.co.uk]

Oh man I hope that "10 more hp" part for the 3.5 V6 is wrong!

Where the hell is that official press release?!?!?
