Well Jack has done it again guys... a new toy. Expect delivery shortly after the 4th of July. Last of the 2008's... got a fantastic deal. P1, AMG Pkg, Parktronic in Black on Black. The GL is a really great one but I had to experience the SL again since my last one was a 1981 model.

Here is a merge of some shots I found on the web. Some real shots coming I am sure...:D

Wow Jack what a great choice! I envy your ability to just sample whatever Mercedes you desire :D. Was there any reason besides the great deal that you wanted to get the 08 and not the 09?

Jack you lied to me...lol.

Remember when I asked you if you'd ever consider a CL or SL you told me no!

Now this.....!!!

Seriously though I'm grinning ear to ear right now. I've read where people are getting up to 20K off the last of the 08 models. If that is true then yes that is a hell of a deal.

Have you seen the 2009 model, if so what did you think of it? Last question, why are you getting out of the GL so soon?

Jack - absolutely awesome!! After a Limousine, the Offroader - this is the perfect car!! I can't wait to see the first amazing shots of your new car!!! Many happy miles with it and enjoy the sun!!

Thanks everyone. I am looking forward to another trip to Denver to pick up a new MB.

The reason for the '08 selection was simply money. I got over $18,000 off on the SL and the '09 would have been at MSRP plus a long wait. It was a weird day. I had a close deal for a Jag XK convertible and needed some information on trade values for the GL and called my rep in Denver. He provided me excellent information and my Jag rep was working on getting me a higher trade figure on the GL to close the deal.

My rep in Denver ( a really first class guy) called me late yesterday and said he found a Black on Black '08 at a California dealer and would I be interested. He told me about the discounts on the '08's and we put the deal together in about 30 minutes. I really had not planned to buy a SL, but I was not aware of the trunk money of $12,000 until my rep told me about it. Pleasant surprise:D

I have not looked at the '09's at all. I did review the posts here last night and also the MB site. There are some things I would prefer like the improved telematics but the body style in either is pretty nice...:) The GL was great but as one gets on in years, you want to make sure you have a chance to enjoy yourself while you are able. The size of the SL fits my lifestyle more than the 7 seat GL and I had a chance to drive another great MB....:usa7uh:

Pictures to be forthcoming soon...:t-drive::usa7uh::t-cheers::D:) Can't stop smiling this morning.:eusa_clap

I love the SL!

Concerning 08' or 09'... When I see a 08', I say, wow, it's classier, cleaner. I prefer it. And when I see a 09', I say wow, impressive! Definitely better than the 08'! After that, I see another 08' and I think, mmmh... Yep, this one is nicer... and....

Honestly, I would have a hard time choosing one. Both are superb! The 08' is classier, the 09' more sporty. Both are just awesome! There's something about the Merc SL, they're always the finest automotive art...

I would agree with that assessment. As indicated, had the '08 not been available, then I would have probably ended up in an XK. Pricing on an '09 at release would just not work for me financially.

Stay with it and you will be driving that SL some day soon...:-) And you are right that I will be driving a MB SL rather than a Jag XK...

hey yeah i was actually last year going to buy a silver sl 500 used with a amg package and amg rims infact if you saw it from outside it was exact to a sl55

but at the time my brother told me i am yet 31 and i can not buy a sl at the time he said the sl is for a older or more matured man and he said a sl is a car you work up to and not just buy a used one and drive it he said you must buy a new one .he told me buying a sl was not just buying a car for x amount it carries a lot off emotion so i left it till the day i can buy a brand new sl maybe in 5 years or so

nevada all i can say is i envy you

Congrats Jack! Great taste in cars. Looking forward to just a couple of pix ;)
Since you and i both owned a w220 and a w221, i wonder if there is an SL in my future ... LOL :t-drive:
