A prototype for the Mercedes SL Black Series has been spotted on public roads around the Nürburgring, in preparation for some hot laps later this week. This is the most wicked SL ever conceived, with optimum performance its top priority.

Huge flared fenders are likely created with ultra-light carbon fibre, to reduce weight and to accommodate this car's enormous wheels and tires. The roof on this SL has been converted into a fixed coupe roof, also crafted in carbon fibre to lower the Black Series' center of gravity and further reduce weight. Exactly what engine mods have been employed here are uncertain, but you can be sure it's insanely powerful.

Our spies will be hot on the tail of the SL Black Series, so keep an eye out for more pics from the Ring.

This is going to be a cool car and probably my favorite Benz. But the rearwing need to be more discreet.

Do you guys think they will wait for the facelift before we see a BS?

If you take a close look you'll notice that the rear wing is retractable just like the SLR/Veyron/Carrera GT/911.
Look at the spared space on the reartrunklid for the rear wing.

Yes of course. We can see the new lights and new front despite the camo, and it would be illogical to present a BS before the facelift.

The car is gonna be a rocket, that's for sure, if we judge from the CLK Black Series. But isn't it a bit late for such a model as the SL is very close to the end of it's life cyrcle?

and this will be one helluva machine..as the SL is not really a bad handling car to start with
and we all know that Black Seriesizing (lol is that a word) a car reults in dramatic improvements:D

I dont want to know the price of this car. More expensive than SL65, yeah probably. Would I take it over SLR? Hell yeah!!! :bowdown:

Im sure it will be faster.. but i dont think it will cost as much as the SLR
the SLR should be out of production by then:D

so the real question is.. if this is bad ass how bad ass with the new
HWA Super car be?
and then what about the new Mclaren project..

I really don't wanna know as already the AMG lineup is sick powerful,but just imagining the future models,i can't help but get an erection:D ,MB is sick:bowdown: :D

Like we have read in reviews a a year ago the face lifted SL stands up quite good in handling compared against the M6, so the car does have a lot of potential.

The retractable wing is a great idea and it looks very sexy too.

Price-wise I have a feeling that this car with be far from a good bang for a buck. It will most likely be priced between 200 000-250 000 euro/dollars similar to the DTM.

That is a very good estimate if you look at the hood with multiple inlets, which seem to be housing some mad engine.

Air vents = engine developing a lot of heat = engine stressed to it's limits!

We all know that the 6.3L V8 is capable of well more than 500hp. What do you guys think, 580-620hp perhaps? This might turn out to be the nail in the coffin for the SLR. Cheaper, comparable power and much more exclusive.

580. With more than that it would come too close to SLR and probably beat it. But for some reason i think even with 580 it'd be able to beat more heavy and less agile SLR.

Amazing looking car - love the aggressive fenders. Wonder what it has under the hoods. Only down side - it will probably cost as much as the Scuderia.
