Our friends over at AutoSpies.com are reporting today about an S350 CDi being tested in the United States.

Is this a hint that we can expect to see the model introduced in the U.S. market in the near future?

It's difficult to say. The hybrid S-Class has been seen testing in the United States, as well as the B-Class. So far, we haven't even heard rumors these cars will released here, and with the hybrid S-Class, anywhere for that matter.

On the other hand, if Mercedes did decide to expand their diesel lineup in the states, the S-Class would be, at least in my opinion, one of the best candidates.

We'll be sure to keep you posted if we hear anything new.

Anything is possible with Autolies, but since the engine will be released in the US it might be real.

but i dont think they would put the badge on it and drive it around already when sales of the 320cdi started only yesterday.....

But maybe this wont be a replacement for the 320cdi.. maybe it will be like BMW 530d and 535d ??

may be, i thought the current 320cdi should have its name changed to 350 to match the petrol ha, but if they do a 350cdi then what is going to happen to the 400 or 420cdi?

350 will be a V6 and the 400 CDi will be replaced by the 420 CDI and thats a V8..
Ohh and there is rumors about a V10 BMW diesel... and a rumour for a V12 S600 CDI :D--

When is the Diesel V6 that Debuted in the Vision SLK going to be produced. I wanna see that!:D

That hybrid one?? if so they said late 06.. but wasent that shown on the W221.-hehe im confused now..

the tri turbo with like 286hp? and the sl400cdi vision? ha yea, someone please find that article, also the silver colour paint on them vision things, anyone know when it is being released?

The paint will be released in 06 under the designo roof.. i want to see how a black or white car looks with such a paint technology..it can make a revolution in car designing:D

Well if they're going to do a truth in numbers re-name of the S320 CDI for America it would be S300 CDI since the new diesel V6 CDI engine is 3.0L in size. A S350 CDI doesn't make sense imo, but stranger things have happened.

I think they should keep the V6s confined to the C,E,ML and R-Classes and bring over the V8 S420 CDI to the U.S. market. Leave the 6-cylinder S-Class up to the V6 hybrid model shown on the autoshow circuit this year, the S320 CDI Bluetech or Direct (?) something.

You mean you guys don't get one? Surprising. I though diesels were popular everywhere but the U.S.

The cost of diesel, the stigma associated with it (i.e smelly, and having to fill up at the dirty pump), and the fact that the market is generally unaware of how superb the latest generation of diesel engines actually are. VW have been doing well with the new diesel golf though, and Merc do have plans to introduce several new diesels, but no word if the S will get one. I doubt it will.
