So, here it is ... The thread ... Let's the debate continues here. If interested.

:t-cheers:

I think we should respect everyone´s tastes and preferences. But I´m with you in the point that, for every aspect, I prefer to be stylish. And sportwear is far from being stylish.

If I go to the gym, I use sportwear, but if I´m going out because of whatever, and don´t want to be too formal, I use jeans. A proper jeans use to be quite pretty and quite cool, at least more than those ugly sport clothes some people wear sometimes.

I prefer to dress smart casual, can't stand sports wear. How people find it nice..I do not know!

As the saying goes "You can always judge a man buy his shoes" well i think of it as "You can always judge a man by his car" so I liked to be judge as having a nice dress code....So I should drive an Audi:D

I'm kinda with this line of thinking. I'll wear "sports wear" if I'm driving that type of car....a Lotus or Ferrari F430 etc comes to mind, but also I think jeans can work with a Rolls, but not the jean you do work in. Needs to be the some clean, non-faded kind IMO.

I think you should dress according to the car, if you care at all. If I had enough money for a Rolls I'd have several other cars in which I can dress down.

Then again, this just might be a whole lot of hoopla over nothing at all. Who cares really long as you don't look like a bum?

What is important is that your comfortable. A car is a machine, which is far less value then a actual human. I should have to dress up to impress my car. It's really a matter of where your going. If I am going to a business meeting in Rolls-Royce then I will have a suit on. NOT because it's a Rolls only because it's a business meeting.

I personally love sports clothing. I really don't even wear jeans...makes me seem stiff for some reason. I prefer sweat pants. If I'm going to a movie, sporting event, party etc. I will be wearing sweats. If it's church, business or upscale party then yes, I will be in a suit and tie.

One the other hand, I do get disturbed when I see someone get out a Bentley with a shirt that is ripped up with stains on it. Other then that if their clean then they are cool with me.

I am not, nor will I ever run up to someone in sweat clothing and scream at them for not being dressed up in their expensive car. Just doesn't make sense to me.

By the way...I hate when people put Dress shirts with jeans.

Dressing up for a spin in your car is laughable stupidity of the highest degree. You're the master of your car and not the other way around, especially if you can afford a car like the MM or 599 GTB. When you've reached that level nothing in the world should force you to wear something against your convenience or will.

By the way...I hate when people put Dress shirts with jeans.

Owchh!!

I go smart casual, but not cheap looking jeans, always decent vintage jeans to match:cool:

As everyone is saying you shouldn't have to dress for your car, I do agree I think it would be quite fun turning up to the shops looking like a bum climbing our of your Lp640 but I think you should at least try and maintain the status of the car.

That's actually reality. One shouldn't change their dress code or way of life just because a new car is on the drive way. 95% of all people driving flashy cars in London look no different from me and you. It's impossible to tell apart from the normal bloke riding the bus.

Agree with luw..
you own the car..
the car doesent own your ass..
Dress as you please..

Either way some people to get over run by there car..It's not a car, it's a life style:D

Not mentioning any brand drivers but if you look at BMW drivers they usually tend to dress a lot more smart because of the company.

Oh yes BMW drivers....

I don't know what it is about them (No offense to BMW drivers here) they always dress "Half formal/Half Casual". Then they always seem cocky as shit. It irritates me to death.

Mercedes-Benz drivers usually seem different. Some I see in Suits all the time...other jeans t-shirts. Most of time their more "social" then BMW drivers.

Matter of fact, I went to a Mercedes-Benz event "Love Tour" they had a few years back in Maryland (USA). Everyone was dress in sports wear, jeans t-shirts and pretty much dressed down.

Then I went to a BMW event in the same area. Everyone was in dress shirts and slacks talk all high and mighty about their everyday lives and their BMW. Even a few racial jokes...but I won't even get into that.

So in a way the car does seem to make the person in some respects. On the other hand certain people are drawn to certain types of cars and feel they need to "Play the role".

Now I'm not saying that everyone that drives a BMW or Mercedes-Benz acts that way, but it is what I have observed in the US.

I don't understand how or why we should "respect" material objects? That's the dumbest sh!t in the world.

This whole goes back to the thing about aristocracy and British Imperialisms rules of: Just because you're a british citizen and wear a suit doesn't make you on par with actual Brits. That is why until the day I die, I will be different and be proud of the fact that I am. I hate this snobby ass attitude and people who embody it. I hate this "holier than thou" mindset.

Everyone is unique and has their own sense of style, ideas, etc. Just because you don't think something is right doesn't make it so. We can't respect other human beings yet I have to pay my respects to a f__king name or a symbol of a company? Do you know what RR's true "heritage" is? Back in the days it was pretty much: if you're not royalty or british then F__k You!. Please, don't ask me to represent a brand that was racist but accepts everyone now because the economy is global now.

Here, I'll tell you guys a story of Brand Snobbery. An MB salesman in San Francisco told me this story about his buddy.

His buddy worked for Porsche dealership in Oakland. One day a dude comes to the dealership with long uncombed hair, hawaiian shirt, shorts and flip-flops. None of the salesman want to help him out, but he finally gets the manager to give him a salesman. He starts walking around and asking about some of the cars and then gradually get's into the more expensive cars (this is early 90s btw). The salesman kind of starts ignoring him but he finally finds a car and says he wants to test drive it.

The salesman asks him if he is serious and the dude was like "yeah". After the test drive the guy likes the car and asks about buying it. The salesman just looks at him and is like "you? you want to buy this? Do you even have money? The financing for someone like you will be hard to get." The dude says, don't worry I brought my checkbook and the salesman laughs. Then the guy gets annoyed and asks for the manager. Manager and him go into the manger's room and a few mins later he walks out with the keys and leaves with the brand new car. The salesman asks the manager wt-f was that all about and the manager says "You're a dumbass" Salesman is like why? Who was that guy? The manager says that "he is one of Metallica band members" and walks away. Since then, the guy has NEVER given a crap about looks and talks to EVERYONE who comes to him.

I don't know if this is true, but the guy was pretty serious. In other words, doesn't matter what you look like and especially what you wear. If you got money, you can buy whatever you want and do whatever you want with it.

Ditto.

As I've stated, when you dress, be impressionable yet always presentable.

And you can ever go wrong in jeans.

Even if it's with a dress shirt.

I've mentioned this story before about the Brisbane auto show in Australia. I went to the BMW stand to checkout the new 335i at the time because I was buying one for my wife. There must have been something on because 320i owners in their cheap tweed jackets where hustling and bustling around sipping wine and devouring nibbles. I on the other hand had changed from work attire to casual attire. I walked up to the salesmen at the show and he blatantly denied to show the interior until I dangled my 5 Series keys in front of him... I later found out he was the head salesmen at my dealership so when it came time to purchase a new car I went to the Mercedes Benz and bought an E500 instead. He has since left so I can return to my BMW dealership in peace. :D

This is so stupid. If anybody judges you on the car you drive then he is an ignorant biased fool. You are who you made yourself out to be, though your accomplishments, strives and struggles not by what car you drive or even by what you dress up in when driving. It is always important to keep a positive and unbiased view about everyone you meet because you never know who they truly are. Some people like to keep a casual simple look and act no matter how big the bank account reads. Some people are just shy and don't like to carry a big pose, with fancy cars, houses and ultimately clothes. Maybe it's because they don't feel like they can live to the expectations their creating to others around them seeing them presented that particular way or maybe because the way they dress can have a pressure on them to confirm and pretending in being someone else than they ultimately are. So any fashion that creates this pressure on you to become somebody else than who you are, not being yourself is only going to cause you stress or discomfort or maybe simply you just do not like it. So back to my point, nobody should ever be judged on who they are by simply how they temporarily present themselves though an automobile or dress style. :usa7uh:

I'll wear what ever the hell I please in MY damn car. Whether its jeans and dirty work boots I wore at a cattle branding that day in a Rolls Royce, or a Nice suit in a 1968 VW Bug. I'll wear what I please, what others think is irrelevant

Judging by appearance is the way to go. You are right in 99 out of 100 cases :D

...or, you could have an open mind.

I certainly won't dress for my car. That said, clearly wearing dirty clothes in a Rolls-Royce is a bit out of place, it doesn't suit the image of a Rolls-guy, but it's your car and your clothes.

No need to be elegant or fashionable just to drive your car!

Besides, like Oscar Wilde said, "fashion is what one wears oneself. What is unfashionable is what others wear".

:D

I don't understand how or why we should "respect" material objects?

It's not about respecting the object itself, it's about respecting the people who created it. If I were a craftsman making Rolls Royce interiors, I wouldn't be too happy to see some punk in dirty clothes making a mess of something I'd worked my ass off to make. Mass-market stuff is a different thing altogether.
