I've made a contact on another forum who kindly has sent me these details on Phaeton Sales.

He is a sales stat geek, his words not mine & has access to the following countries.

I've added Asia-Pacific regions Taiwan, North & South Korea, Australia & New Zealand.

Italic Denotes Unofficial Numbers (Round figure from existing Press & other Sources)

"Europe" as defined by Automotive News Europe includes the following countries:

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK.

Very interesting, thank you for posting! Since the Phaeton is a new model and a new contender in the market it isn't doing too bad, either. As the figures show the sales of the Phaeton is actually increasing worldwide year-on-year.

I can't give you an exact number, but the amount of Phaetons sold in Singapore numbers about 50. :usa7uh:

Just fourteen for Canada in 2006..(so far) :eusa_doh:

That's a shame, the Phaeton is such a great car, but it's so underated. Thanks for the numbers Ben.

So on average from 2001 thats over 4000 Phaetons a year :D

im sure these figures are way below what vw were expecting, im still surprised its still in production, the sales of The merc r class is way more higher, and that is the ugliest car i have seen 4 a while....not saying the phaeton is goodlooking itself....

Well, VW definitely estimated the market wrongly, they set their targets too high.

I wonder too what VW will do about the Phaeton. I reckon to salvage whatever it has invested in Dresden, they will continue selling it. If a facelift is in order, it better come soon because the Phaeton is already lacking in certain technological advances (Bluetooth, for example? And DVD-based navigation maps).

I don't know how the R-Class is related to the Phaeton sales in any way. The R-Class is a Grand Sports Tourer, the Phaeton is a big luxury sedan. Perhaps you could elaborate?

thanks for that info the phaeton is a very good car tht does not get enough attention well atleast over here in the states
i had thought that the phaeton was not sold in the USA anymore but on the list it goes through 2006:confused: am i right or am i wrong?

2006 was the last year for Phaeton in North America ;)

There was only 6 left in the US last October/November, won't know if they've been sold until sales stats come out.

(1) im sure these figures are way below what vw were expecting, (2)im still surprised its still in production, (3)the sales of The merc r class is way more higher, and (4)that is the ugliest car i have seen 4 a while....not saying the phaeton is goodlooking itself....

(1)Very true VW planned 20,000 units a year, Bentley and its sales & profits make up for the Phaetons failing at hitting VWs targets.

(2)Phaeton got very popular with the V6 TDI variant in Europe, Asia especially Korea loves the Phaeton.

VW are planning a 2nd generation of the Phaeton ;)

(3)Not sure on that will take your word ;)

(4)IMO it looks Beautiful & takes styling cues from the Mercedes W140 S-Class my fav ;).

The Phaeton definately isn't the biggest sales hit ever!

I have only see one in the UK, actually I think that's the only one I've ever seen!

Seems a shame because when I've sat in ones at motorshows they seem very nice cars, I'm sure the reason they aren't selling is just because people would prefere to get a BMW or MB for the same money. I think VW should lower the prices for the next generation, so for example you'd be able to buy a W12 Phaeton for the same price as a 750i. This would make it sell more, instead of pricing it at the same level as the other luxury cars when it hasn't got well thought of badge!

Another thing that's very bad about this car is it's depreciation, I've seen Phaetons with the 3.2 V6, which retail for £40,000, after about three years for sale at £24,000, a bit cheaper than a brand new 520i! Now that makes an excellent second hand buy!

Now that makes an excellent second hand buy!

Well, you could get a used W12 now for little money in the US. And even these are not selling very well, I think. :eusa_doh: However I do see a constant stream of new owners of used Phaetons on the VWVortex forum which I frequent, which is a good sign. :usa7uh:

4 sold in December last Official month of sale in US market :(

Total by Mthly sales 233.

Official VWoA PR says 235 Phaetons for 2006 which means two left have sneaked in but not in Official Sales Mthly Reports ;)

The official end date for new Phaetons in the US was Feb 06. The new one I just got was mfg in Nov 05. When I started the negotation, there were only 13 left in the US market. After that you can only get a used phaeton here. Our only hope is that the new leadership at VW will have a change of heart, but don't hold your breath

Recap of sales after Bobs report
7 of 13 sold in Nov.
4 of 13 sold in Dec.

So 2 left

-------------------------
Also adding 35 Phaetons that according to Wikipedia were sold in Hong Kong in October 2006.

Added South Korea 2005 & 06 ytd sales & Germany's ytd 2006 sales
