This is for real. The Mk. II Jetta (sold in Europe 1984-1992) is still in production in China (has been since 1991). This is the latest facelift spotted without camo:

Not so suprising. Up until a few months ago VW SA were still selling the Golf 1 rebadged as a Citi golf.

And the VW T2 bus is still produced, I think in Mexico. Why not, they're good cars, and being old they are cheap!

Ive seen this done with Chevrolet, they are still maming the Corsa B. Brilliant idea to keep production and material costs down!

Eh I'm mildly insulted that VW is still passing this vehicle off as new. Strictly speaking in terms of safety, to sell this car as a 2010 model is pretty much a joke. Are they saying that the Chinese car purchasing public isn't worth the same time and effort as the Euro-American market? You know we wouldn't go for this crap.

I believe the car-buying public in developing markets has the choice of modern cars with modern safety features and older, cheaper cars with hardly any safety features at all. This VW isn't even the oldest design by a long shot. Heck, you can still buy the Hindustan Ambassador (essentially a 1957 Morris Oxford) brand new in India. Given that many buyers have very limited funds available, the older models are still popular in many countries.

Good grief! Well we had the VW Golf MKI as a entry level car updated by VWSA and discontinued in 2010 here in SA. The car was not complying with safety standards anymore and replaced by the previous gen Polo - Now our new entry level car is the Polo VIVO! (It sells a steady 2000+ units per month!)

Don't worry! We do have the complete range of new generation Polo hatches and sedans here (also 2012 Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Passat, Kombi and Caravelle also Tiguan, Touareg, Amarok etc);)

The VWSA Uitenhage plant manufactures the new Polo for all right-hand-drive world markets, the Cross Polo for all markets globally and the Polo Vivo for the local market.

The Polo Vivo was once again South Africa’s top-selling passenger car in December 2011, according to figures released by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA). In three and five-door hatchback and four-door sedan (saloon) configurations, the Vivo claimed the sales top spot with a total of 3060 sales. Last month also saw the the fifth-generation Polo record impressive figures, too, once again in second place, with 2114 units. The Polo 6R was also the biggest export model for Volkswagen South Africa. The sole producer of right-hand drive current generation standard and CrossPolo-trimmed models, its state-of-the-art Uitenhage factory exported 2372 units overseas last month.

The Polo Vivo was launched in March 2010 as an entry-level model for the South African market, replacing the Series 1 Golf-based CitiGolf,
