Enjoy. :)

very nice place. and great pics expecially like the nite time shots :icondrool . where is it because it reminds me of last year being up in Quebec canada in the winter

Very nice pictures. At least you guys got snow, we only got a couple of inches so far. The temp is usually in the 40's and 50's - unusual if you ask me (global warming anyone?) :t-hands:

Ljubljana, Slovenia

Most would call it "Little Prague" indeed.
Some say it's like Vienna and Prague having a daughter: Ljubljana - nice, little, friendly, lively, picturesque.

I was somewhat close :D ... and it is really beautiful, both winter and summer.

I'm trying to organise a trip through Eastern Europe next year. I'll make sure to add Slovenia to my list if I ever get to do it.

This Winter is the real Winter: lot of snow, and temperatures well below 0 centigrades. But it vary from year to year. Some Winters come with almost no snow and with higher temperatures than average, some are rich with snow and very cold. Same goes with the Summer: sometimes dry, sunny and very hot, sometimes wet, and not so hot & sunny. But what is happening in the last years is that transitional seasons (Spring & Fall) are very short: after long Summer Winter comes quickly, and vice versa: after long Winter the Summer reappear rapidly.

Stunning, tine. Love all the colored houses at night..Really cool! Is that done every night?

Thanks. But its more like town than a city: 350,000 population. But its our largest city. :D

You won't regret coming to Central Europe, especially to Slovenia. The Western tourists rediscover our country when we have joined EU. Most people are amazed since they expect Slovenia is all gray, dull, dirty, poluted ex-communist country. But it's far from that.

And it's very close to Venice, Vienna, Salzburg, Budapest etc.

Definitely Central & Southern Eourope is more worthy to see than Northern part (sorry, guys) - the belt from Chezch Republic, Slovak Republic, Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia (the coast), all to Switzerland, Italy, Southern France & Spain & Portugal.

If you come to Slovenia the places not to be missed are: Ljubljana, Maribor, Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Logarska dolina valley, Škofja Loka, Postojna cave & castle, cost town Piran - and the country side: especially the wineyard areas.

It's everything you want in one small place: sea & coast, alpine lakes, mountains, spas, wineyards, picteresque towns, lot of forest, limestone caves, castles, golf fields, ski resorts, great food & wine, fishing, extreme sports areas, and 32 different dialects of Slovene language, etc. - all that on an area slightly smaller than New Jersey.

The pics were taken in December when the town centre is heavily decorated celebrating the Christams & New Year time: from early Dec - early Jan. It's worthy to see that in December - sight from a fairy tale - with all the people shopping on the banks of the river where traditional open market is placed - drinking hot sweeted wine with spices, or honey liquer, eating sweets or other traditional fast food, singing, dancing, chatting.

But even out the New Year's season the coloured buildings are illuminated with blue or white reflectors. Only the yellow lines/borders are not there, and no street decoration (Christams trees etc) is present. Also the castle is illuminated, but no yellow reflectors on a hill.

It looks like this:

What we were thinking about is starting in Austria (I've been there before and I loved it) and then make our way up to Poland (where I was born).

We were definately thining of passing through Prague... or maybe Budapest, then Prague, then Poland.

Or maybe Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic!? I guess it will all depend on how much time we have?!

Dang Tine, I'm really envious of where you live. Those pictures are exactly what I conjure up when I think of "Winter Wonderland". :D

Very nice pics Tine. I have never visited that part of Europe but I intend to in a few years' time.

Global warming? You can send some of that my way:
Observed At: Oulu, Finland 19 Jan 2006
Temperature: -17 °F / -27 °C

LOL, yeah. I saw on the news yesterday that the temprature over there in the north dropped like 20 degrees in 1 night.

Now you have to maske a hole in the ice and swim in the water for a couple of seconds, Mike.....that keeps you healthy (or that's those crazy people from Moscow and St Petersburs are saying on the news anyways....

I hope the cold weather expands to the west of Europe too. It's like +5 right now over here. 35 degrees difference!

+5 C klier? where i live, it has around 12 degrees i think (17.4 in my room) and it is considered a cold and windy day....

"BTW", Tine, i don't know if i have told you this before, but you live in an awesome country, considering its beauty. Sadly, i have not visited it before, but i hope in the future.
I can say, that your home town looks great both in celebration, and in every-day life. But, i would like to see some pics of the real city, traffic, roads with people and shops, etc.
i wish Patras looked as good as this. My city, is considered, actually IS a kind of ugly, since the last years, the Majors didn't really interest in make that city look good. It's the cultural capital of 2006 and looks disgusting. I heard that some guys from CNN/BBC came this week to see the city and they saw exactly the opossite of what they expected.

PS. Patras has 200.000 pop. and it is considered a city here...

PS. It never snowed where i live. At least not in the 21 or 20 century...

Oulu, pop. 127,000, very much a city from a Finnish point of view. And running for cultural capital of Europe in 2011. :D

it rains all day and it's very windy. It is considered a cold day. 17.4 is ok for me. Note that i didn't change clothes when i came home. I'm still wearing my pullover.

This doesn't surprise me at all! :icon_roll :icon_roll

Thanks.

Croatia definitely have a gorgeous cost, cost towns, islands, and also some continental sights (e.g. Plitvice). But Zagreb didn't impress me much. To someone traveling to Croatia I would definitely recomend visiting the coast first. :)

Awesome photo spread, I couldn`t find one bad pic in the bunch.

I`m a real pig for winter and cold weather! :usa7uh:
