Nissan finally did it & here it is ;) ;

Peace talks between Porsche and Nissan over disputed lap times at the Nurburgring have failed and the Japanese company is preparing to mount a counter-attack.

Nissan is gathering evidence in Tokyo before unleashing a rebuttal of Porsche's claims that its GT-R could not have achieved a claimed 7 minute 25 second lap at the Nurburgring as a stock-standard road car.
It has deliberately avoided commenting until it has everything ready to prove its point.
But Nissan was angered by Porsche's attack on its GT-R, which came after the German company ran a back-to-back comparison with its 911 GT2 and Turbo and could not get within 25 seconds of the Japanese lap record for a production car.
There were talks late last week at the Paris Motor Show as Nissan executives tried to negotiate a back-room compromise with Porsche, but these failed with the German company standing by its claims.
This forced Nissan to mount a major case with everything from independent video footage to the disputed Dunlop tyres used by former F1 driver Toshio Suzuki during his 7:25 run.

Does anyone else take this as anything other then Nissan lying?

The easiest way for Nissan is to get Toshio Suzuki to drive the GTR around the Ring, with a Porsche engineer sitting along side.
 
Even if they do that, whats to say it wasn't modified.
If the time is legit then use the one Porsche has.

Video footage doesn't mean squat. A replication of the unrealstic lap is the only way to prove themselves. Until they do just that Porsche are the winners in this war. It seem like Nissan are trying to avoid walking the talk. There insecurity is clearly showing. What a bunch of phonies.
 
The only way to clear this mess is to have an independent source like Sport Auto drive a car that is actually brought straight from a dealer instead of a Nissan supplied car.

Yeah, I've been wondering about that too. Where is the GT-R super test???

Yes, I agree with Gullwing. Just use the Porsche's GT-R for the test.

Whatever happens, the GT-R has managed to beat the 911 turbo and GT3 in all independent tests. So the GT-R's performance supremacy is confirmed.

I can't wait for the GT-R V Spec :eusa_pray
 
I think Sportauto only tests car being sold in Germany and since GTR isnt coming to Sweden until 2009/2010 we might have a long wait ahead of us ;)

Oh yeah that's true. It hasn't officially been launched here in Europe yet, been told by Nissan that it's reaching UK dealers next year. Then I guess Nissan are the only ones who can put things right.

Nissan will face legal consequences if the laptimes turns out to be a lie, not to mention a severely damaged reputation and image. They've certainly stepped out into deep water this time.

I don't get why they would approach Porsche and try to negotiate. What is there to nogotiate if the laptime is for real? The rotten fish has has officially began to spread its stench. This could turn out to be one of the biggest scandals in the history of automotive.

I doubt they will face any legal consequences unless they used the lap time in any official advertisement or sales material which I doubt they did, and even in that case, it is highly improbable. But yes, it will be a severe loss in credibility.

They used it to promote the car knowing the signifigance of what type or hysteria it would create. When ever a company makes a statement about a product they are selling, the product must deliver exactly that. Nissan knew exactly what they were doing when they said "Hey look at us, we've made a 911 killer lapping 7:29 around the ring, buy the car at a low price of 75k"

If it turn out to be a big fat lie then someone who's bought the car has the full legal right to get a refund. Those are the consumer laws protecting us from manufacturers using ugly ways to boost sales. I wouldn't be shocked if a group of people file a class action suit against Nissan.

Still they've got time to prove themselves and I'm sure that Porsche will keep pouring salt on the wound until maximum damage has been reached. This is Blitzkrieg!!!

Dude, seriously, what are you talking about? This is NOT false advertisement. If you bought a car only based on some rumours, then maybe you should get sued on top of that. If the car turned out to be not as good as you expected, you SELL the car. You don't sue the manufacturer :t-crazy2:

Like I said before, those laptimes always seemed lofty to begin with. But, it still hasn't stop almost every car journalist to say that this car is amazing, no matter what the lap time is. Even though some may critique it and say that it drives like a Playstation, there's no doubt that it caused hysteria by itself.

First of all it's not a rumor since Nissan themselves are the ones who made the claim. Sports cars are much about prestige as well an it makes people feel good that they are buying the fastest car bla bla bla. Not only that but what if you bought the car as a tool to become a hobby Nurburgring king and bought it in belief that it's performance in uncompromisable extracting the best out of your skills.

It is false advertising if you claim a product can do something it's really not capable off. It's is one of the fundamentals, you simply don't lie to customers. It's an illegal way of luring customers into buying your products. Selling the car isn't the best solution since you'll lose money on it. Proving your case in court will easily force the manufacturer to give you a full refund.

Your problem for being so believing in the manufacturer.

1. Nissan didn't say: This car has this kind of performance, or your money back
2. This wasn't an ad as far as I know. Some guy came out and said it. And if that's the case, again, your problem.
3. We don't know the full story. Period.

So if MB came out and said, hey we made a C class that's more fun to drive than a 3er. And you bought it, turned out it wasn't. Does that entitle you to sue someone?

here's an even simpler example. McD's comes out and says our Big Mac is juicier than Burger King. Turns out it wasn't. Do you sue them? Cause if you do, then that's almost as funny as that lady that sued McD's for the coffee being hot.

Nothing about what Nissan said was "official"

The extra 80 kg is not fair, IMO.
 
Make a head to head comparison. GT2 vs GTR. Porsche and Nissan should meet up. Only way to settle the battle.

I don't remember seeing any official material with the lap time either. It was always some engineer/test driver told some web site/car magazine. None of the manufacturers are that stupid, not even GM/Cadillac with there new found obsession with Nurbergring lap times. The closest you will find is 'car x breaks the 8 min mark'.
