The Frankfurt Auto Show is still a month away, but that hasn't stopped the car companies from dropping previews and tip-offs of new concepts they have planned for the show. Mercedes-Benz will have one of the biggest presentations at the event, showcasing no less than 18 new models and concepts cars, and the underlying theme for the show will be its new green initiative.

One of the concepts it has planned will be a 'radical' proposal for a large luxury car labelled the F700. Though this doesn't sound very green, the concept will feature Mercedes' new 1.8L turbocharged DiesOtto engine. The tiny motor is said to deliver an amazing 238hp and 295ft-lb. of torque, while returning fuel consumption of around 39 mpg in a large S-class saloon.

Other cars planned for the show include the new C-Class estate, more Bluetec diesel cars and the automaker's new electric hybrid range.

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

^wow super exciting cant wait to see it
F concepts are always so damn futuristic..and might show where mb are headed design wise..
i hope its to a happy place:D

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

^hope not..
they really should not labell a concept as a MB if its gonna end up as a MM..
MM can have its own concept cars.. like the exelero..
if they do that..they have redone the thing exact thing that is WRONG about the existing MM

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

MB luxury sedan concept? A model above S-class?

Is MB planning to ditch Maybach?

First ODC, now this F700 Concept. It looks like MB is going to introduce new lines above S / CL. :eusa_thin

Does that mean no room for Maybach anymore? Or perhaps Maybach will stay strictly "limited edition" brand - offering $300k+ models only, while new MB lines will fill the gap - competing with baby RR line, and new Bentley Azure family. :t-hands:

Btw, this DiesOtto engine sounds promising. Add the hybrid components (incl electro motor), and fuel consumption + CO2 emissions will be extra ultra low.

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

Hmm, a 1.8L engine in large luxury car doesn't seem to be right. Ok, the performance of that engine is great but in terms of engine size, isn't that going to hurt the Mercedes image if that car ever goes into production?:eusa_thin

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

^not really when the engine can output that kind of power it doesent matter
but i doubt they will put it in a S class..
they just want to showcase how low the consumption can be on a car that large..
the 1.8 will probably be for E and C
on the other hand imagene a V6 or 8 with this technology..
should be epic

A model above the S/CL doesn't seem like a good idea because in that price range Bentley, Aston Martin and RR are more prestigious brands. Then again MB is the worlds most powerful luxury brand and with top notch craftsmanship they can easily sell an uber sedan in the 150k+ price range.

There is also a possibility that they will present the concept(idea) as Benz but produce the car as a Maybach. Kind of what the VAG did with the Veyron since they frist presented is as a Bentley concept.

Either way I'm very eager to see what MB has in store for us. The Ocean Cruiser was ground break, the CLS was baning as well so what type of car sedan can they be working on now? One with four individual seats maybe?

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

Not sure if it's going to be sedan... some source say a X-over type of vehicle !? :t-hands:

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

Just curious... what is the MB ODC going to be? It was shown as a concept some time ago, and many speculated it would be an S-class convertible, .. but have those speculations materialised yet with any test-mules or hints of this idea from MB?

As for the F700... well, it will be interesting to see just how MB markets this car. Whether they simply call it the next step up from the S-class, or whether it will become the basis for a new Maybach.

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

DiesOtto, variable twin turbo, 1.8-liter displacement, 238HP, 400Nm.

This engine can accelerate S-class from 0 -100 km/h (62mph) in 7.5sec, consuming only 5.9L per 100km.

The engine is planned to be paired with 15kW, 200Nm electro motor in an S-class hybrid.

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

A good idea the DiesOtto, and it is real downsizing....

Whaa, beautiful... An S-class... What is it, a 500?
Errrr, well... No... It is a 180...S180 :icon_redf :werd:
What? 180? 1.8L???
Yes... It is a new motor, a new concept you see.. :t-hihi:
Pfffffouaaaahhhh an S180, look look, my Kia is a 2.0L, Wouaaarfff :ylsuper: :t-woohoo: my Kia is a sportcar

18 new models! Gee whiz. The Germans are coming out in full force this around, 2005 wasn't the best Frankfurt show!

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

wow that looks VERY Interesting..
we need to see more NOW:D

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

Panamera-ish rear? I'm not soon keen on the R-class styled head lights but in a few days we'll get to see the whole glory.

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

Looks like it's going to be butt-ugly just like every one of MB's F-Series Concepts :D (and yes, I know the technology is their strong point):

F100

F200

F300

F400

F500

F600

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

F700 looks like a bastard child of F500 & Ocean Drive Concept. :D

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

Wow, kinda looks like the Ocean Drive a little bit too. Its about time they start showing us something the show is only a few days away!
