M5 Did I just spot the new M5? No!

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M

If you had a licence plate would be able to tell if it is an offcial "AG" car.

No pics of the front? Not the M5 rear. Someone added exhaust and removed badging
Are these new M5 wheels?

If you had a licence plate would be able to tell if it is an offcial "AG" car.

The license plate was there, but the glare from the sun totally eradicated any sign of the digits and letters. :(

No pics of the front?

The car caught me off guard.

Plus, I had a gigantic 70-200 mm telephoto lens on my camera. The car was about 25 meters away from me and even with this lens on my camera, at 70 mm I'll have the front kidney grilles in my face - literally. :D

So I couldn't take a decent front shot. I was also surprised by the car and couldn't react fast enough to get a front shot. The front looked very "M-ish" to me, which is the reason I was wondering if this was a debadged M5 undergoing testing...

You can probably fix the image in Photoshop to reveal plate.

Probably not. I shot this image in JPEG (as opposed to RAW) which I do for all my sightings shots (since I used them as practice, especially for panning at 1/30).

In a JPEG picture the image is already compressed and saved and all relevant shooting information is deleted. In a RAW image, this information is kept for you to later edit in a photo editing program like Camera Raw in Photoshop. In that case I might have been able to restore the license plate, but not with this JPEG image. :t-cheers:

No. They're the optional 19" wheels that come with the M Sport package. This is clearly an ordinary 5 Series M Sport with an aftermarket exhaust.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Seriously, why does this thread still exist?

1. It's no M5
2. The M5 is not a new BMW, but an update to an existing model
3. So even if this were an M5, the thread is completely in the wrong place.
4. We have a very big 6er spy pic thread, why post the 6er cabrio in a new thread?

Wimmer, I appreciate what you were trying to do, but you did everything wrong. And no other mod cares to correct it somehow...

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
