Nice and all, but the impact the new Mini had and has will never be matched again in the car industry.

VW can only dream about what would have happened if the new VW Beetle was this huge a succes
A1, A2, A3.... Lot's of cheap Audis. Why??? Don't they have VW for that?

Newpapers must find big titles in order to sell issues. AutoBild says that there won't be a next generation Audi A2 but it will be named A1 and will be the size of VW Polo. Price wise it will cost around the same as a Mini and that justifies the headline.
If you ask me i would take a A class or even a VW Golf instead of a Mini anytime.

Everybody now, say "awwwww." Okay, so the sources are a little sketchy and the photo makes it look like somebody made the car out of marshmallows (somebody should check this for photoshopping), but German Car Blog says Audi is going to pit this little jellybean against BMW's MINI Cooper by 2010. The A1, allegedly a successor to the A2, should MSRP around 15-20,000 Euros. The four-seater will sport three doors and a diesel or the new twincharger engine.

While it looks a smidge like the Shooting Brake concept, we're not convinced this one will hit the market, even by the projected date of 2010.

That is only a concept that was made for a design competition (something like the Ferrari concepts we had seen not long ago). Even if the A1 is made it will certainly not look anything like that.

I'm with Klier on this one... makes no sense, VW cover the low-end spectrum.

This sounds as silly as VW going upmarket with the Phaeton... all it will do is produce a fine car that will flop and make the company lose ridiculous amounts of money.

Audi is on fire right now. At least in the European market a new A1 or A2 will be a smashing hit for sure. Of course previous A2 was a disaster but that was mainly due to high price and ugly design.

BTW i just found an article about A1 (in German) here.

I don't know Yannis... I'm not convinced a luxury brand should venture that low in the markets. :t-hands:

A class starts from 17 k euro and is by far the cheapest car from a luxury German car maker. I can't see why Audi shouldn't get a part of that market since A3 starts from around 22k euro.
Anyway for the moment this is all just speculation. Nothing is confirmed. Just because AutoBild wrote something we shouldn't be certain that it's a fact. It could prove to be BS.

Very cute chop but that car looks more like a Smart sompetitor rather than a mini competitor.
To be honest Audi already has a mini competitor. The audi TT??? That car has attracted the exact people who buys the mini cooper and those people are metro sexual men living in metropols and young female hairdressers.

True, but I don't think the A-class should be around either (at least not as a Mercedes).

I don't think this is the target group of Mini and neither these people/professions buy this car. Judging from what i see here in greece, mainly, a MINI is bought by women from 25 to 40 with upper medium and high income. As for men, i don't think i have seen many driving one, but they are around their 30s with high income. Also, the price is kinda high here.

PS. I don't know exactly what an metro sexual man is called in greek, but here the hairdressers use scooters, not MINIs!

I like his impression. The car looks very cute. I beleive the car will be some sort of a mix between the A3 and TT. Mature and steril with a lite sprinkle of cutness.
