Sonata Hyundai: Sonata has better paint quality than MB CLS

The Hyundai Sonata is a mid-size car that has been manufactured by Hyundai since 1985. The first generation Sonata, introduced in 1985, was a facelifted version of the Hyundai Stellar with an engine upgrade, and was withdrawn from the market in two years due to poor customer reaction. While the nameplate was originally only sold in South Korea, the second generation of 1988 was widely exported.

In their Super Bowl ad Hyundai claim that the 2011 Sonata has better paint quality than Mercedes-Benz CLS550.

So are they saying they have nano-paint now? :cwm1:

And why are they comparing it to the CLS? Is the Sonata supposed to be the Korean CLS?

According to Hyundai the new Sonata is a work of art comparable to Mozart's and Schubert's compositions.

Cheap-a$$ cars, cheap-a$$ designs, cheap-a$$ ideas & cheap-a$$ ads! Wake up Hyundai, irl, a cocky statement is not a point difference! :eusa_doh:

I'd like to know the basis for their statement. Does the Mercedes have 13 paint steps instead of Hyundai's 14? Does the Hyundai have nano clearcoat? I doubt it!

I can just picture a Sonata guy and a CLS guy talking:

CLS: I bought my CLS because it is the pioneer of the four door coupe, has an incredible interior, and turns heads.

Sonata: I bought my Sonata because it has better paint than your Merc.
:D

What are they trying to show? I've an idea... After all those years in the market, they've finally improved on something; the paint-job! :D

you shouldn't be condescending, the Koreans are catching up VERY fast.
this might still be a joke, but give it 10 years and a sonata might very well be a serious rival for any number of premium german cars ;)

It is a "rival" for them now, for those who don't know what German cars are about. Those who look at leather/sunroof/bluetooth/heated/cooled seats/stability control to make a car a "luxury" car then Hyundai already has the Europeans and the Japanese beat. A car like their Genesis is all the "luxury" car most people will ever need. It doesn't take much to impress most people, even luxury car buyers, which is why the Koreans are gaining so much ground market/image wise.

I'd just want to know what this statement is based on. It would surprise me if it was true, but on the other hand if it's false they're gonna be sued big time by Daimler, so...

One has to recognize however that Hyundai and Kia are now lmaking excellent cars for a very decent price. Gone is the time where a Korean car was just a crappy cheap car.

If someone says "Hyundai", this is the first thing that spring to mind:

It even looks like it's ashamed of itself.
