Easy (Geely) Tiger!
Geely is moving upmarket; a move that would initially seem ridiculous considering the company’s budget offerings but, the new GT Concept looks like a quantum leap in the right direction.

When it comes to automotive design, the Chinese have had something of a poor run to date with their tendency to breach copyrights with alarming frequency. The Geely GT Concept, which has leaked onto the web ahead of its Beijing Auto Show debut, is evidence that stunning designs are not totally beyond manufactures from the East.

Due to Geely’s dabbling with other car designs, it’s all too easy to draw comparisons between this car and a number of other models, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that this car is a genuine breath of fresh air. There are hints of Maserati GranTurismo about the overall silhouette and muscular haunches, the brake lights that carve into the rear three-quarter have a hint of Alfa about them and that huge grille and comic book proportions lend the GT some similarities to the outlandish yet appealing Maybach Exelero concept.

The Geely GT, also referred to as the Geely Tiger will be headlining 10 models (and their derivatives) at the 2008 Auto China show in Beijing. According to the company’s press release, “The year 2008 holds great significance for Geely’s Internationalization, strategic transform and overall elevation of the competitiveness of Geely Brand.”

Geely chairman Mr. Li Shufu referred to the 4,9 metre long GT Concept as a “small Rolls-Royce”, and (rather contradictorily) also drew comparisons between this new leviathan an the Lotus Elise.

The sharp-eyed among you may have noticed that the GT wears a different logo on its bonnet compared to the rest of the Geely fleet. The company says that the future of high-end models would not be possible without a new badge, suggesting that Geely may have a premium brand (much like Lexus is to Toyota) for its more expensive offerings, with the Geely brand focused on the budget models.

absolutely awesome.... Maybach should have put the Excelero in production as a Veyron rival... (SLR as good as it is, is not exactly a match for the Bugatti...)

It's really inspired by the Exelero, the front especially, but it's not a copy, it's a genuine design.

So it's quite good for a first attempt, even very good! It's promising.

If the Chinese begin to design their cars, they will not any more only be a subject of moquery and trials by the Europeans.

Concerning the Maybach Exelero...don't know why they did not produce it. But given its weight and W240 platform it was not really intended as a Veyron competitor.

Remove the chrome strips around the taillamps, change the weird grille, and you indeed have a very nice car. An Exelero with some Peugeot 908RC and Nisssan GTR inspirations, but really a cool car.

Even though it's obviously not very original, I have to give them credit for actually designing something nice. Usually they just steal ideas from other cars put it all together and it looks like baboon's ass.

This time, however, they actually took the time to study lines of the designs they borrowed and found the best way to put it all together. And I must say it doesn't look to bad.

Interesting styling, they just need to cut back on the weird detailing, and get some new disc brakes, those one looks like they are stolen off an old car.
