BMW officials have finally released details for the new Mini Clubman stretch, less than two years after it was first displayed as a concept car. A longer wheelbase, vertically-split tailgate and a single suicide-style rear-opening door on the non-driver’s side differentiate the new Clubman from the regular Mini hatch.

The engine range kicks off with the base 1.6L naturally-aspirated petrol four-cylinder mill, which develops 120hp and 160Nm of torque. This is followed by the new 1.6L common-rail diesel with 110hp and 240Nm of torque and the turbo 1.6L petrol engine in the range topping Clubman S, which produces 175hp and 240Nm of torque. All three engines will be available with a six-speed manual as standard or an optional six-speed auto.

Pricing should be announced closer to the car’s sale launch early next year, according to the guys at Edmunds, and the final production version should make a showing at September’s Frankfurt Auto Show.

Well then, here it is. Zilch surprise.

I stand by my last assertion. Fussy, over-complicated, hardly any more practical and totally pointless automobile.

I hope the engineers have stiffened the rear tailgate frame for better torsional rigidity... any body flex at the rear and those two barn doors are going rattle like grandma's false teeth...

this looks like a fancy hip delivery or catering car.
Even though I really like the Cooper, I wouldn't be caught dead in this    :t-crazy2:

I have mixed feeling about this car. Beside the extra cargo space I don't find it any more practical than a Mini. Personally I find it to be a bad compromise for people who want a practical Mini. Further more I don't like the silver C-pillars, makes the car look fussy. This is car I could never see myself buying.

I think that the Mini-Clubman have more a nostalgic purpose.

While I love the mini, this car is an oxymoron. But probably BMW marketing figured they are missing out on people who want a mini for its looks but find it a little too small.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
