German auto giant Diamler, have signed a deal with Japanese components maker IHI Charging Systems International (ICSI) to manufacture turbochargers for application in petrol and diesel engines.
The manufacturing unit will be built at Arnstadt in eastern Germany and will employ 400 people. IHI Charging Systems International (ICSI) holds the majority stake in this deal.

A turbocharger is an exhaust gas driven pump that is used in internal combustion engines to increase the amount of available oxygen available for the engine’s functioning. As a result, the volumetric efficiency rises and the power to weight ratio of the engine is also increased.

This partnership will help Mercedes-Benz as their future turbos might be developed and manufactured in this facility at a much lower cost. Their upcoming models which carry the DiesOtto powerplants will use two turbochargers of different sizes. Mercedes won’t have problems in making turbos for their test engines or cars after this deal.
