A Rant about Facebook...

I need to vent here for a few seconds...

I've usually avoided these kinds of sites (Hi5, Friendster...) because I saw them as a waste of time and potentially addictive. Facebook on the other hand was different at first because of its focus on being mostly for college students. It was also a great means (and still is) of keeping in touch with friends in a more fun way than emailing.

But...then Facebook all of a sudden allowed the MySpace teenager crowd to join. Then stupid little applications starting appearing. I mean who cares about the "What Is Your Stripper Name?" application? Or the "Stud of the Month" crap? Anyone else sick of these stupid applications that have NO POINT? :t-hands:

Seriously, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is up with these stupid applications!? When I need to tell some of my friends something the quickest way to do it is usually on their wall. Yet with all these dumb applications it takes ages to find the damn thing. I've spent minutes on some people's profiles looking for their wall. I couldn't find it and had to end up sending them a private message.

Worse, all these dumb applications slow down the loading speed of the page.

Ever since they allowed little kids to join Facebook, this site has been going downhill. I hate these damn applications with a passion. I've removed a few "offenders": people who keep sending me invite after invite to add some lame application.


What also annoys the hell out of me is when someone in another country sends you an invite to some event I sure as hell won't be attending.

"Um, I am in Germany right now. I am busy. No, I will not be attending your wedding in Zimbabwe! Get real!" :t-crazy2:

"No, I can't make it to your Bar Mitzvah in Mongolia!" :t-banghea

Dam right about the rants, and especially this one.. the facebook page is so slow now, and I am on high speed net connection already. Who really cares about "when I will get married'' or "Am I hot or not'' . There are ads popping up everywhere and useless ''relationship'' or ''do you want to date this friend'' crap. Very annoying indeed. :t-banghea

Exactly!

I can't believe that some "mature people in their mid to late 20s" even add these dumb applications!

I mean I have nothing against people adding some (aka "few" applications), but there are people on Facebook that have to add every single God damn application ever invented! Terrible! :t-banghea

Yep!

And those dumb invites to attend some event in another country a million miles away. Like I am really going to hop into a jet to see someone get married I hardly even know! :t-banghea
 
Lucky I don't have a clue what you are talking about because I don't have Facebook!

As you said, I didn't won't something taking over my life, so unlike basically everyone I know I don't have an account. Reading threads like this reminds me I made the right decision!

The only reason why I sign up on facebook is to see what kinda of photos of me did my friends post up on the net. Sometimes you need to keep an eye of those secret photos people take while you are not aware of it.

I am hardly on Facebook these days, but it is annoying to reply to friends who have a zillion applications on their profile that slow down your browser (even has caused mine to hang and crash a few times!). :t-banghea

Well yes, it's becoming increasingly hard not to sign up, because everyone asks if you're on facebook and did you see this or that on facebook.

When I join university in September, I may have to join to keep in contact with everyone at home, and people I meet at uni!

BTW, having never used either, why did everyone suddenly switch from Myspace to Facebook. What is the big difference. How does Bebo compare??
 
Word brother!

On another note, Facebook has never even been a good way for students to keep in touch.

Yeah!! Absolutely right! I also have no account!! And by reading Christian little "review", I'm glad, that I haven't join the facebook community. :t-cheers:
Nevertheless the idea of facebook, myspace, studivz (very famous here in germany) is great…and you can see, that it works!! :usa7uh:
 
I feel the same! I think I'll delete my profile soon just because of all this crap I'm getting every day!
 
All understandable points. Many of which I agree with too...

However, I still love Facebook. :D
 
I have to admit that I have added way too many of those absolutely irritating apps on my profile. And yes, I hate them with a passion. And every day some silly, waste-of-space app decides to send tons of spam to my inbox...these moments make me want to throw my computer out the window... So Christian, I hear you completely. The only reason I've decided to still put up with the thing is that I've actually really managed to get back in touch with long lost friends thanks to it.
 
Superwall and funwall are the most annoying ones, you are sent over 5 times the same damned video or any other thing by different people! :t-banghea

Now you have the applications where you HAVE to invite people to see your results, oh dear.

I was practically forced to make a facebook account because I wa staking a lot of pictures at school and it was the easiest way for everyone to see them.

I think my page isn't as messy and I keep the wall at the very top (Christian, tell me if it's still absurdly cluttered and laggy), but there are some that are beyond being ridiculously overstuffed.

One thing that I do is add the application, if it demands me to send invites I just click the "profile" button and my results are visible at the bottom of the page without annoying anyone else and if I don't really care for the application then I just remove the box out (not the whole application) of my profile and so I don't show up in the "invite" list any more yet it won't clutter my page! :banana:


And it's really creepy that you can see the "wall to wall" of various persons, that's why I prefer to keep personal matters in private messages or ask for an email address to tell them like that or via messenger if the phone isn't an option.
 
I don't use My space and Facebook a lot but there another online thing called "Bebo", it's set up for 12yr old and sad ass teens..Okay i admit i made an account and sometimes go on but it sooo stupid it has all those annoying things okay like "How will you die" and "What car are you" and sends you a message say "Bob has added the "how will you die applicant..would you like to find out how you die?" What thee f-c-u-kayyy. Very childish and immature:t-banghea
 
Why are we complaining about facebook here? Why not on facebook where they have hundreds of groups with thousands of people with the exact same thoughts? Plus at least there you have a chance of someone actually listening and doing something about it.
 
Don't get me started about Facebook. The best thing I recently did was to deactivate my account. I've been off the book for at least two weeks now and don't think I'll ever get back.

Trust me, you'll be amazed with the things that you've been missing out to facebook. I'm even considering reading a book again ;)
 
Facebook is really addictive, especially if you are a teen like myself. I go on about once every two days though and I just recently joined your group on facebook! :t-hands:
