Mazda today took the wraps off a new concept model called the Shinari during a special press event near Milan in Italy. The Shinari is a four-door coupe style sports sedan collaboratively designed by Mazda's styling studios in the United States, Germany and Japan. According to the Japanese firm, the sport sedan's styling previews a future design direction for the Mazda brand.

"This design will lead to the next generation of Mazda design and will lead to other elements," Ikuo Maeda, general manager of Mazda Motor Corp.'s design division, told reporters at the event.

According to a report from Autonews, Mazda officials pointed out that the Japanese brand is also looking to further improve interior quality of its future vehicles. "We want to play in the same group as BMW and Audi," said Derek Jenkins, director of design for Mazda North America. "On fit and finish we want the same level of quality."
We're still waiting for an official press release and more photos from Mazda, so stay tuned for an update.

:t-cheers:

Looks good, but I don't think it is an improvement over their previous design theme, actually Mazda didn't make the most out of their previous design theme, they produced a series of stunning concept cars but hardly any of the design elements were transfered to their production cars.

VERY, VERY NICE! :t-cheers:

A very real and very good looking 4-door coupe. Mazda does something the automobile industry needs and that need is competition for the German PREMIUM brands. They need some eastern manufacturer keeping them (the Germans) sharp and awake;)

I can see that EVERY manufacturer currently has 'something new' and 'different' to expand into the Chinese, Indian and other growing markets. Most of the SUB-PREMIUM brands are in the process of offering PREMIUM products to new and existing markets.

As long as the German Premium and well established manufacturers - Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche take this eastern onslaught seriously and up their own game, I am happy....

Scott 27, how would the German execs react to these kind of developments and concepts from eastern manufacturers?

Maserati influenced front + Peugeot influenced rear...:eusa_thin

A Euro car cocktail, made by Japanese cooks! Result = An Italian Sushi?

ERGONOMICS

Getting past the outer and directing one's attention to the inner...
There is some REAL nice, workable and innovative ergonomics going on! Very impressive, not overdone and IMO buttons placed + integrated in a revolutionary and workable user friendly way:wthumb:

I think it looks good, mixture of MB, BMW and Aston but with their own design elements. Well i think what appears the MB-style grille (from the SLS and CLS) is actually from their RX8, so who influenced who.

Despite all the Fisker Karma/Aston Martin Rapide talk, you can see a lot of the RX-8's influence in the design. Those separated, large wheel arches; the short, squat rear end and just check out the rotary-shaped indent in the bonnet for an obvious example.

Yes, alot of the lines were lifted from others, but it just looks so good, I'm more than willing to forgive the designers.

Make it fast, turn corners on a dime, ride well, be reliable, and efficient and they've got a fan in me.
