Japanese cars were very unsafe until recently. The body wasn't rigid enough and the exterior body panels thin like paper.

Today they have improved but still i would rather be in a German car which makes me feel much safer.

Wow, look at the damage of the Toyota, thats pretty serious!! The Merc is damaged to but Mercedes cars always stop at a certain point, the crumple zone!

C'mon, that's a early 90s corolla vs. a the current gen C-class. This outcome is a no brainer. This is a childish comparison.

You think that if we take a 1990 VW Golf and crash it against a C class the outcome will be the same? I seriously doubt.

I'm willing to bet money that it will be the same if not worse. There is just no way in hell to compare a 16-18 year old car against a new car. That comparison of yours is bogus, simply because the physycis involved in a head on collision is very different than a collion against an inanimmated object.

Of course the C class will have no problem against the Golf but still if you compare a 1990 Golf to a 1990 Corolla the Corolla is 10 times less safe.

When Auto Motor und Sport made the first crash test comparisons in the early '90s all Japanese cars of the time broke into pieces.

Honestly, anytime I ever read anything european magazine on japanese cars, the European always do way better. While on the other hand, the golf here in america has never really been considered a safe car, at least not the early 90s. The corolla and the civic have always done better in crash testing against than the VW here in the us. I guess US just gets a superior japanese product than than europe does.

Yannis, there are also many factors that influence the degree of the accident. The speed of the other car, the angle etc.

When my family's Mercedes E320 was damaged two years ago, the accident starter (the Golf) was hardly damaged. Our car on the other hand was badly hit.

The Golf was speeding on a snowy and icy road, lost control and slammed into our E320 at a 3/4 angle. Basically, his car hit our car like a bullet and caused a lot of damage. In defence of the E320, the damaged frontal area was basically constructed out of plastics. Also, the only broken after the accident was the radiator. :D

Wow, that sucks Wimmer. At least none of the cars were totalled. I'd kill the SOB who totals my MB!!! Nice pics! How is the car running now?

This happened last Christmas. The car runs just fine. We've had zero problems with our E-Class and after the accident, the car has been just as reliable and good to us. :t-cheers:

All MB really did was replaced the radiator, check the engine compartment and body for other damages and replace the hood and entire front fascia. :usa7uh:

The moron who started this accident was driving an estimated 80 km/h on a road full of snow and ice. People like that should be banned from driving for life. Especially since he lost control in a curve and could have slammed into my father and his friends who were playing a game of Eisstockschiessen in the woods next to the road, where the shooting range is.

Christian you never showed us those pics. Nice to hear that the car is 100% fine still after the crash.

Mercedes for life :D
