Conclusion:
Z4 winner. Best balance for everyday-use. Good mix of driving dynamics, strong engine and comfort.

Though there is no denying that the new Z4 was crying out for this engine and more importantly tweaks to the chassis.

Very poor showing for the TT-RS compared to other reviews by quite a bit.

TT-RS quickest car to 100km/h (obviosly becuase of Quattro). But how did the Z4 manage to be quicker up to 200km/h?

I definitely pick BMW. RWD, best looks, best engine, best in-gear performance and best interior out of these 3. Make it that dark blue color from press photos and it's perfect!

The main reason is that BMW has excellent Gearing. The same story happens when you compare R8 V8 with M3 E92 6-speed.The R8 is a little faster to 100km/h but M3 beat it up to 160 km/h and 200 km/h.
Audi most of the time use very short Gearing for it's cars, it is not bad because it gives you brutal acceleration in gears but very short gearing makes the car slower at higher speeds because in fact at speeds higher than 100mph you are always in a gear higher than your competitors and that's why they pull better than you at those speeds despite the fact that you had the edge in lower speeds and off the line acceleration.

Here is data from EVO magazine to compare and see how this TT and the competition compare.

0-30 1.6
0-40 2.5
0-50 3.5
0-60 4.4 (62.1mph)0–100 km/h: Audi 5,3 s/BMW 5,7 s/Nissan 6,1 s
0-70 5.9
0-80 7.3
0-90 8.8
0-100 11.1
0-110 13.2
0-120 15.6 (124.2mph)0–200 km/h: Audi 19,4 s/BMW 19,1 s/Nissan 22,2 s
0-130 19.3
0-140 23.3
0-150 28.5
0-160 35.8

Even allowing for the 0.1s difference between 60mph and 62.1mph and 0.1s between coupe and convertible you can see than we are still talking about over half a second difference. Again looking at the 124.2mph mark, the EVO test reached 130mph quicker than this.

I just don't happen to agree with your opinion here. I think what we have is an under performing TT-RS compared to other road tests, that is all.

Fine, but then the BMW is underperforming as well.
There will be no tests where the I4 of the Audi will be faster to 200 km/h than the Bimmer I6 :) The only advantage the TT RS has over the Bimmer is 4 wheel drive (= grip) for the short acceleration tests, but after that it all stops for this car...

Still, I'd take it over the 370Z in a heartbeat :) agrression.

I'm not taking anything away from you but head to head comparison is more comparable than taking a test from other carmags. Acceleration numbers depends on many factors.
Future test will show which one is the quickest. So far TT-RS quickest to 100 and Z4 up to 200km/h.

I think DCT gearbox is the reason why Z4 is quicker than TT-RS in this test.

The TT-RS is a 5cylinder not a 4cylinder engine. :usa7uh:

I am always on for a comparison test where all cars are tested together on the same day but all I was trying to highlight was that on this occasion the TT does seem to be an under achiever compared to other example of which there has been many.

BTW I wasn't trying to take anything away from the Z4, this new engine and with the tweaks made to the chassis has dramatically turned the Z4 abilities around and made a very good sportscar. I don't doubt the DCT is making it's presence felt, I have been informed that when the TT-RS gets it's own DSG shortly the kind of improvements we can expect are approaching 0.75~1.0s by the 200km/h mark.

With such great reviews of the Z4 is... one can only wonder what a beautiful machine the Z4 M would have made.
