The Z4's interior is just in a different league from the SLK's - one must wonder how they can even think the SLK can compete in that department?

Looks-wise, I think the Z4 cuts a better angle too. And the twin-turbo seals my decision.

Smacking profile the Z4 has there. Suddenly the SLK isn't the golden child of roadsters any longer, competitors now also have a metal folding roof.

Voted for the Z4 here!! Absolutely stunning and most beautiful roadster on the market!!

Nevertheless the facelifted SLK looks still great…not as agressive as the Z4, but a nice roadster with more "understatement".

I have to vote for the Z4 its just a superior car..

( BMW fans note in your diarys im voting for a BMW in a poll..) :D

I'm not the BMW sycophant I once was, but I have to stick my neck out and say that the new Z4 truly smacks one over on the SLK in a huge way.

From a purely aesthetic point of view, the Z4 looks like it's a whole generation ahead of the SLK, and possibly in a class above. BMW really nailed this one.

Let's just say that the new SLK can't come soon enough now; it's a bit like the GLK vs. X3 here, only the Z4 is the GLK ;)
The ONLY thing I like better on the SLK is the shape of the door in the side view shot. But that's a very small thing and will go completely unnoticed when you see the cars next to eachother in the flesh...

I have finally seen the Z4 in real life for the first time (same place they had the E-coupé): sDrive 3.0i at the Dutch national car show.....beautiful car irl. I wasn't allowed to touch it or sit in it though, so I can't really comment on it yet.

I said wow :D
But I would vote for the GLK over the X3 too :D

The current version was launched in 2005 if my memory serves me well, so it is on sale now for about 4.5, 5 years and will have around 3 years to go if this car has a 7 year lifecycle (the previous gen SLK was on sale for 7 years)

Both are great cars. However I liked the last generation Z4 more from a design point of view. The interior of the new Z4 is very nice though.

It's the dinosaur effect, the last time we saw it was when BMW presented the E90, overnight the W03 C-Class and B6 A4 went from Natalie Portman to Dolly Parton.

Design wizards at Mercedes mos certainly didn't expect this and might be back on the drawing broad. That is if they don't want the SLK's 10 years reign to come to an absurd halt.

The E89 Z4 just rules, is has no bad point, may be the engines could have been the latest versions, but even with that, they are just great. Mercedes has to do a very good work with the next SLK to surpass the Z4 this time.

Voted for the Z4. Definitely one of the best looking roadsters around.

I don't like the new Z4: it looks really heavy.
But I don't like the SLK, either: it looks really feminine.

So I'll vote for the Z4, because it's undoubtedly the better of the two. But I can't see myself driving either of them (while the Z3 and SLK first gen looked gorgeous).

^ The Z3 probably is the most feminine car BMW has ever made (with the Isetta perhaps), but whatever :D ;)

So u think the current SLK is feminine and the old one is not?..IMO the old one was seriously feminine while the new one is more masculine and edgy especially when kitted with AMG cladding.

Well, The Z3 looks feminine but it has masculine (phallic?) proportions (look at the bonnet...). And it had really delicious curves... it was not only soft, but also curvaceous (the side, the bonnet, everything, yummy!)

The first SLK didn't look feminine. The current one has way softer lines, the older one had that typical MB-rigidness. Its lines were straight and clean. The current SLK is very feminine, but tries to look a bit more massculine (F1-nose), it's not my taste.

This isn't even a fair comparison... IMO the SLK never really measured up to the Z4 at any generation and at any point in time, so comparing it to the new Z4 is just mean. I really hope MB gets it right for the next SLK.

If they go for a mini SL they will be fine, for sure.
