Testing my CL65

Has anyone else used a GPS datalogger (i.e. vbox or pbox...both made by RaceLogic) to test their own cars? These are essentially the same tools used by automotive media to log the magazine data.

I have tested my 2005 CL65 (not exactly stock) with a pbox usually from a 30mph roll (traction has been an issue with the really cold road surfaces):

60-100mph: 3.87s
60-120mph: 6.67s
60-130mph: 8.45s
100-200km/h: 7.26s

It isn't really "fair" to compare these #'s to stock vehicles...but I will anyway :D

100-200km/h:
Ferrari 430 Scuderia: 7.88s (Quattro Ruote)
Lambo LP560-4: 7.44s (QR)
Nissan GT-R: 9.28s (QR)
997 GT2: 8.47s (QR)
CLK DTM: 7.9s (SportAuto)
Lambo LP640: 7.7s (AMS)
Ferrari 599GTB: 7.4s(AMS)
McLaren SLR 722: 7.0s
McLaren SLR: 7.21s

Now for some modified cars 100-200km/h:

Edo Shark(997): 7.39s
9ff TR-63 (997): 6.88s
SpA BTR 530 (997): 7.53s
Sportec SP580: 6.93s
Techart 997TT: 7.50s
Barabus SLSV12: 6.95s

My 7.26s is not too bad for a car weighing 4,650lbs ...without driver...:usa7uh:

Welcome to GCF Tom :t-cheers:
Impressive #s ... I love the all the CLs

Thanks!!

Hopefully I will be able to get some standing start acceleration #'s when I head to the track later this month. It won't be a fair comparison to magazine times because I will be running on a really sticky drag strip surface with drag radials. However, I think the #'s will be shocking to most(borderline unbelievable) in terms of 0-60 times. I am expecting 0-60 in the 3.0-3.2 range (with the 1ft roll out on the pbox...as most car mag's set there equipment to).

Damn right, the 65 engine is just mighty outrageous:D

Care to post some pics of ur gorgeous CL?

And welcome to GCF:t-cheers::D

Some pictures of my ride when I had some 20" AVUS AF M02's on it. I am back to the OEM wheels (nasty potholes will do that).

I took it to the 1/4 mile track today (Maryland International Raceway). I let my buddy pilot it down twice. He did a "hot lap" where the car was run back to back without a line (it was a small track rental) and without any cool down. I had to leave to get back to work (where I am stuck now). The car was running BFG drag radials street tires. The results:

Timeslip of best (1st) run:

60': 1.727
330': 4.784
1/8m: 7.288
1/8 trap: 98.66mph
1000': 9.430
1/4m: 11.237
1/4 Trap: 124.00mph

Here is the interesting thing in comparing the times to the pbox...the pbox will display the acceleration with the 1ft roll-out setting...but when I download it to the pbox software the #'s are without the 1ft roll-out...weird.

Per pbox (without 1ft roll-out):
0-30mph: 1.45
0-40mph: 1.97
0-50mph: 2.66
0-60mph: 3.39
0-70mph: 4.16
0-80mph: 5.18
0-90mph: 6.28
0-100mph: 7.46
0-110mph: 8.78
0-120mph: 10.50
0-130mph: 12.34

60': 1.98
330': 5.01
1/8m: 7.52
1/8trap: 100.44mph
1/4m:11.47
Trap: 125.35mph

As you can see the pbox is a little slower by about .23s because of the 1 foot roll-out allowed by the drag strip timing lights. The flip side is that the trap speed is higher from the GPS system because it is measuring the "exact speed" at 1,320 ft...but the drag strip trap is measuring the average speed over the final 60'.
