Poor M5 getting spanked by new RS6 or is it the driver? (Autocar)

It doesnt seem like the journalists were too exited about either car-however i do agree with their conclusion. Ultimately, if you want a really powerful wagon, your going to want that power on tap at all RPMS (not just 8000), which is why the RS6 wins the comparison. You dont have to shift with smg paddle shifters like an F1 driver, in order to go fast, you go fast by putting your foot down-and power delivery and acceleration are just an epic part of the equation of tremendous torque at low-through high RPM.

Ill take the Audi.

^^I'm with you, I'll take the AUDI too Matt.

On a side note...I'm more interested in this "Skydrive-beta". What is that?

I don't think it's the driver. :D
I suspect even a mediocre driver in the RS6 could hang with the M5 driven by a very good driver on a twisting mountain road. An equal driver would no doubt pull away.
In a straight line, forget it; even a grandmother in the RS6 is likely to outrun even the best driver in the M5.

Based on just the cars' stats, I think the Audi got it regardless of drivers.

RS6 makes the M5 look slow and crap.

And yet, the BMW is easily the better dynamic drive not to mention has a more comfortable ride. The Audi seems to be a great disappointment in my eyes.

I think those picture captions sum up my points quite nicely. Audi clearly has underacheived with the RS6 compared to RS4 and R8.

:t-cheers:

tis editor Harris has never like the SMG. Last time the tested the M5 the hated the car. Same old same old Harris.

But he is right, the SMG gearbox is quite jerky. One clear example of what C. Harris described in this article:

The SMG is maybe jerky, but the car is wonderful.

The RS6 is immensely powerful. But according to the first reviews, that's all. The handling is disappointing as are the sensations. The RS4 was a real threat for the M3 (and still is), but the RS6 seems not really to achieve the same result against the M5, apart being more powerful.

I'll take the M5 here, and in a heartbeat, the high-revving V10 is just a piece of art.

If I were to buy such a powerful car, I sure would take drift lessons and play with it on a track just for fun the WE, and here the M5 takes the cake with ease. I would not do some time-attack chronometer chasing, I only would put some old tyres on the car and drift (carefully), make some laps... Have fun with the 500+ hp.

in automatic mode yes but not in manual mode. There its up to the driver. There is a learning courve with SMG but when you know it, its a wonderful thing.
Now there is DCT for M3 and it should eliminate the jerkiness in automatic mode.

But in S6 manual mode the car act like a racing car when changing gear, its kinda jerky :D but it shifts very fast but the same time its engaging.
