Hockenheim short track, 2.6 km:
1:12.7 --- 128.748 km/h – Ferrari F430
1:14.1 --- 126.316 km/h – Ford GT40

The F430 is up-the-ante compared to the more powerful and expensive Ford GT, in accelaration and braking there is nearly no difference between the two. Only the handling is different, gear shifts with the semi-automatic Ferrari gear box is are much easier and faster than with the conventional gear shifter of the Ford which broke during that test. Therefore the Ford had to complete the Hockenheim track test only in first gear abd so lost against the F430.

american quality :D j/k

Something's not right here, if the car had no second gear and upwards, how does it achieve an average of 126.316 km/h around Hockenheim? Is 1st geared for 180 km/h?

Then why say it at all?

Did the gearbox get broken as a result of gross mechanical abuse? I wouldn't be surprised...

Sure, I prefer the Ferrari, but this is an unfortunate outcome for the Ford as it's been on the receiving end of a see-saw of journalistic sentiment. When are we going to be given the whole story? First, the GT's praises are sung from the galleries and now it's being criticised almost universally since Clarkson let rip.

The text is translated by a german. He must have written wrong, probably second gear. GT does 105km/h in first gear.

mechanical abuse? I dont know, I never heard that any other car tested by Sportauto where a gearbox has failed.

EDIT: If I remember correct , I believe the same thing happen to Ford GT in an american carmag.
