Four years after it hit the market, Volkswagen is giving the Eos coupe-cabriolet its first cosmetic makeover. The facelifted model, which will have its world premiere at the LA Auto Show in late November before going on sale in January 2011, receives an updated design and a host of new features....

....Aside from the use of BlueMotion technology with a start-stop system and regenerative braking on the 140HP 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine that reduces fuel consumption by 0.7 lt/100 km, bringing it down to 4.8 lt/100 km [49 mpg US], there aren't any other changes under the hood.

Mmm... nice improvement VW, EOS was starting to look dated. I like this new, sharper and no-nonsense VW design language - it's businesslike and to the point.

Indeed, it is an improvement. The rest of the VW had the new VW facia, while the Eos was the last to adopt it. The pre-fl headlights looked a bit weird...

Volkswagen Eos Receives Engine Update

MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – October 6, 2010: With the arrival of the new model year 2011, the Volkswagen Eos will be treated to an engine upgrade, which sees the Eos deliver the same power output as the acclaimed Golf GTI.

With the arrival of the MY11 Eos, it now features the 2.0 litre four-cylinder TSI petrol engine with a power 155kW output, which allows the vehicle to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 7.8 seconds. Maximum torque – 280 Nm – is delivered between 1,700 and 5,200 rpm, an exceptionally wide range to provide excellent in-gear performance and keen throttle response. The Eos is available with a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG transmission. Emissions of CO2 are 173 g/km (DSG: 184 g/km) and fuel consumption is just 7.4L/100km (DSG: 7.9 L/100km).

The Eos's TSI engine offers new features including modified pistons and piston rings, new induction system and a high-pressure fuel pump. This engine was designed for Euro V compliance, lower CO2 emissions, fuel efficiency, ease of servicing and "packaging". Packaging means reducing the external dimensions of the engine, plus accessories to allow appropriate under-bonnet space for engine movement, service access and crumple zones.

The Volkswagen Eos is also still available as a 2.0 litre four-cylinder 103kW diesel paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DSG gearbox. Model Year 2011 also gives the Eos some other enhancements like standard Vienna leather upholstery with heated front seats, new 17" alloy wheels and a range of new exterior colours combined with new chrome grille strips and cherry red tail lights.

Every manual Eos now also comes with standard Hill Start Assist (HSA), which holds the vehicle when the foot brake is released by temporarily locking the brake pressure (for a maximum of 1.5 seconds) to provide comfortable starting-off without rolling back. Hill Start Assist (HSA) operates on inclines greater than 5%.

Pricing remains unchanged with prices from $46,990 for the Eos 103TDI and $48,990* for the Eos 155TSI.

Looks really good, had forgotten about this car. I wonder why they've never done an R version of it. It would be hot IMO.

Volkswagen Eos extensively enhanced

Wolfsburg, 7th October 2010. In the 10th month of the year, Volkswagen is already holding its 13th model premiere: the highly successful Eos opentop coupé has been given an updated design and further enhanced with numerous new features.

Clearly structured and horizontally contoured, the appearance of the new Eos follows the code of the Volkswagen design DNA. Extending now between the new headlights is a radiator grille consisting of three shiny black struts. From behind the Eos stands out through its reworked, twopart LED rear lights and redesigned rear bumper with diffuser.

In technical terms, numerous new details set the 2011 Eos apart. These include the ‘Premium’ multi-function instrument panel with colour display, the Light Assist main beam management system and second generation Park Assist. Also new on the Eos is the Keyless Access system, which as a new feature also opens and closes the roof by wireless remote control. The special Light Assist system takes over the function of switching between dipped and main beam, automatically adapting this to the traffic situation. ‘Cool leather’, available as an option, gives a pleasant feel to the cars’ seats even in hot weather. It reflects the sun’s rays and thus heats up much less than standard leather.

Through the use of BlueMotion Technology fuel consumption has been further reduced. On the Eos 2.0 TDI 103 kW / 140 PS, for instance, the Stop/Start system and brake energy recovery bring consumption down by 0.7 litres to now just 4.8 l/100 km. The new Eos will be unveiled to the public for the first time on 17th November at the Los Angeles Auto Show, with the European launch following from mid-January 2011. Offered with a range of four turbo-charged, direct injection engines (90 kW / 122 PS to 155 kW / 210 PS), the Eos will have a base price in Germany of €27,975.

For the interior, VW made some subtle upgrades in the form of new trim on the instrument panel and doors, and different controls on the air conditioning system.

In the U.S., the 2012 Eos gets the latest version of VW's 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder gasoline engine with direct injection tech that produces 200 horsepower and 207 lbs-ft. of torque while delivering a highway fuel economy of 31 mpg highway.

North American sales of the revamped Eos will start in early spring of 2011.

Heidi Klum looks marvellous in a bob cut. I've never seen her in such short hair but I like it a lot.

And oh, the car is kind of alright too.

Volkswagen to finally kill the Eos in May or June
Replacement not considered

Volkswagen has announced the Eos will be discontinued in May or June this year.

It was more than two years ago when Volkswagen warned us about the demise of its slow-selling Eos and this will effectively happen in May or June after nine years of production during which approximately 230,000 units were built. The hard top convertible is assembled at a plant in Setubal in Portugal where Volkswagen also puts together the Scirocco, Sharan and sister model Seat Alhambra.

The Eos came out back 2006 when folding hardtop convertibles were popular but shortly after that the market plummeted so the model never took off. Don’t hold your breath for a replacement since the convertible market is still small so most likely Volkswagen will prioritize development of yet more crossovers and SUVs.

According to internal documents, Volkswagen will take final orders from customers for the Eos at the end of March.

Good. To be honest I thought it had already been discontinued.

(Brain fail). I forgot about the current Golf cabrio ........well you can hardly blame me, it's as boring as hell.

The Golf MK1 cabrio is still one of the most distinctive and attractive small cars ever imo.

^This Golf Cabrio looks really good still in present days.
It was called in derogatory way "strawberry basket" because of the roll bar, especially when the car was red painted.

Volkswagen Eos replacement rendered as the Sport Cabriolet Concept GTE

Volkswagen Sport Cabriolet Concept GTE render / Theophilus Chin

Based on the Sport Coupe Concept GTE
The Volkswagen Sport Coupe Concept GTE has lost its roof in a digital interpretation of a cabriolet version by Theophilus Chin.

This is merely a styling exercise as Volkswagen has already announced they are not planning a successor for the slow-selling Eos. Even if they did, it wouldn't be based on the Sport Coupe Concept GTE as that one is much larger (4869mm long) than outgoing Eos (4422mm long).

The Eos will be retired sometime this month or in June as Volkswagen has stopped taking orders for the hard-top convertible in late March. The Eos will be one of the several models getting the axe as VW's technical boss Heinz-Jakob Neusser declared a few months ago that other cars will be eliminated as a response after being criticized of having an overcrowded lineup.
