E-Class (W124) W124 Entry Level Car Reviews (Mercedes Enthusiast)

The Mercedes-Benz W124 is a range of executive cars made by Daimler-Benz from 1984 to 1997. From 1993, the 124 series was officially marketed as the E-Class. The W124 followed the 123 series from 1984 and was succeeded by the W210 E-Class (saloons, estates, rolling chassis) after 1995, and the C208 CLK-Class (coupés, and cabriolets) in 1997.

This is for Mirage77 but it might come in useful for those of you toying with the idea of getting a used entry level W124. :t-cheers:

I thought I had the big W124 review, but it turns out it was in one of the earlier Mercedes Enthusiast magazines before I discovered them. :t-banghea

I do have some nice 500E vs E400 reviews. :D

Short E220 Synopsis

300D vs 200E / E200

A scary story to frighten any W124 enthusiast! This 260E was almost a goner... :D

Karma for you, Wimmer. :usa7uh:

So it seems that the E200/E220's aren't that bad at all... I'm pretty much convinced. My friends are asking me 'Why an old Merc?!' They would never understand why I'd buy an old Mercedes that looks fit for a 40 year old. I say, it's the love for German cars man...

LOL, I know these were around before you were born James (even I was not a teenager when these came out) but don't you think the W124 still looks really modern? .....it has aged so well.

Glad I could be of service. :D :t-cheers:

The E200 should be decent, but you heard what they said about the E220: extra punch. That's always handy but I suppose for a place like Singapore, an E200 will be perfectly adequate. :t-cheers:

Yes, I think it looks good... But people expect a young person like me to drive a sleek, new car. Or a convertible... You know what I mean?

In one of the Mercedes Enthusiast magazines I have, a former Subaru Impreza WRX owner wrote a letter of how he was so in love with his Subaru and how he thought cars with automatic transmissions were boring etc., but then he tried a W124 E500 and he became hooked. He searched for an E500, found one, bought it, sold the Subaru and is now a Mercedes convert. :D

Will try to find it...

The E500's a world of difference. Now that's something special.
