The PRE-SAFE® preventive occupant protection system is becoming even more effective. In the future S-Class, which will celebrate its world premiere in autumn of 2005, Mercedes-Benz is combining PRE-SAFE® with the new anticipatory Brake Assist PLUS, which uses radar to detect vehicles up ahead on the road and issues a warning when the vehicles come too close. When there is the risk of an accident, the system calculates in the blink of an eye the required braking power, which is immediately supplied when the driver applies the brakes. In critical braking situations, the front seatbelts are also tightened as a preventive measure, while the inflatable seat cushions are pumped up and the seats are brought into a position that provides the vehicle’s occupants with maximum protection in the event of a collision, in keeping with the PRE-SAFE® concept.

W221 Thinking ahead

First and foremost.

I think that MB has done a great job as far as design is concerned. I never thought that they would be able to match the predecessor but they did. Good job MB.

Okay there with the pics Dark Child, is that the entire worldwide S class catalog? :D

I sat in this one in Frankfurt. It had a Designo Interior... wow.. once you sit in it, you just don't want to get out anymore. you just fell like closing your eyes and enjoying the unbelievable comfort! Notice I'm only talking about sitting in the car. Driving it would defenitly be a different story.
I'm in love!

So when are you going to work as head of design for MB? :eusa_danc

J/K ... Did everything inside seem like it was in the right place (sort of speak). Nothing in the way, everything needed in hands reach.... how was it in comparo with a 7'er. Interior wise?

im sure once u sit inside the car ur gonna see a big differance bettween the interior of the s-class and the 7 series ...theres some details that u see in real life and u cant see in pictures ....

That's what i was asking Huss... about. Wanted to know if the positioning in the car is perfect, or not, and if its similar to the 7'er.

Figure he has first hand point of view.

Ok I'm here.

Needless to say my affection for the S doesn't change with sites.

The interior detail is where Mercedes will really win back some that left the brand for other better detailed cars in the past.

I'm afraid I can't give an relieble answer to that, for I didn't sit in the 7er. But I felt like everything in the S wa in its right place. And the most important thing is that It doesn't have too much buttons. there are only few buttons that are important and should be reacalbe anytime. Everything else can be reaches by the Comand knob in the wide screen. The menu was very simple and intuitively desigened. I didn't feel like I was lost browsing the functions. Unfortunately I did't have enough time to "discover" more, because there were other people that would certainly have killed me if I didn't get outta the car to give them the chance to sit in the car!

I'm still not totally convinced over the interior. It doesn't feel as opulent as it should be - like in the A8, for example, you can feel you're bathed in luxury - I don't feel (or rather, see) myself enjoying the ambience of the S-Class interior, IMO.

Wait a minute what is going on here?

Is MB using VW as bait for this G class?

Haha! Could be! I'd suggest they are testing the Distronic Plus cruise control?

Like most of you, I think the AMG package is a must for the new S-Class. I don’t know why hasn’t MB done this, but they need to ASAP.
Also, what’s up with not putting exposed exhausts on like the new M and R? I know some of you might say it’s a luxury sedan, but still, look at the S500 with AMG package, the S600 and the AMG models. They all look very sporty and attractive with the exhausts exposed. And the front and the rear look plain without those AMG bumpers.

My favorite color so far has to be that red S500 with the AMG package. I think we will see a lot of S’s in that color…. What’s it called?
