This may be a worthy upgrade from my two and a half year old Dell power house. I only upgrade my laptops every three years and they do last because I tend to buy top of the line machines. It's cost effective. And when I buy a new one I look for a massive upgrade and a new generation 15 inch macbook pro is looking appealing.

These are in fact looking appealing. I recently purchased the Macbook Air and I absolutely love it.

The best upgrade I should look out for is SSD because it's one of the only components which truly makes a difference. I love the fact that the new mac book pros will feature a 8-16GB SSD catering to the OS.

I had thought that SSD was going to be standard, and it may well be but we'll have to wait. SSD being dedicated to the OS is good, makes it start up faster and may even have instant on, which is what is on the macbook air.

Only a small SSD will be standard. It will be coupled with a traditional HDD. For those with stacks of money under their mattress Apple will off course offer an option SSD in place of a HDD. SSD still remain to expensive to be standard, especially for people who's capacity requirements are in the region of 500GB.

Agreed. I think we all knew that was going to happen. SSD has to come down in value and even though Apple is the largest purchaser of flash memory, they still can't lower the price enough to make it standard at sizes that are good enough for people.

So, I just got new MacBook Pro and now it it old already???

Are you kidding? What can I do about this?

I'm under the impression that Apple still runs a policy that allow people to return an Apple computer in exchange for a new one if a purchased has been made within a two week of a product launch. Or else, I'd recommend taking a small hit by selling it and buy the new one launching next week.

I think if it is within the 14 days of purchase (two weeks like you stated) you can return it with no questions asked. I think.

The updated 15" and the 17" are the only models worthy of the "Pro" label. The others are severely lacking and the 13" are a terrible joke at that price. Cut it in half and start looking like something close to the competition.

Vaio Z owns the 13" segment so bad its not even funny :D

I agree with you. I was kinda hoping that Apple would lower the price for the 13 inch, but they didn't. :t-hands:

I have to say, this is not the update I was looking for. I have been reading that for 2012 the update is going to be a complete overhaul of the computers. That is what I was hoping for today. Another issue that I take is with the screen resolution for the 13 inch. I have a Macbook Air and love it with the 1440X900 screen resolution. They couldn't put that on the 13 inchers?

The processors are good and by and far the battery life on the computeres that Apple offers is probably one of the best in the industry. However, I do agree with you on the price for the 13.

Thing is, i have a mid 2009 MB(P) with the 9400 integrated... and I don't think it's worth the gain in performance to "update" to the new entry level "Pro". That tells you a lot regarding how badly behind the competition the 13" MBP:s are today. I love the look and that is why I still have my little darling ;-)

Look and craftsmanship is where Apple gets an A+ from me. Technology, that is where they make or break it. They may have certain things that are amazing, but sometimes they are behind in the competition with others. We'll have to wait and see what happens with the next MBPs.

Exactly! I bought one because I discovered that all i did was mail and surf = ideal Mac customer. Now I'm looking at maybe firing up a game once in a while... hrmm... 15" with M6750 or wait for the redesign? I know I will have a hard time leaving Apple :D

At one time you'd have to laugh at people who wanted to consider gaming on Macs, but you'd be surprised how good they have gotten. We have all known they are good for photo-editing and things of that nature. I haven't gamed nor will I on my MBA, but on an MBP, it would nice.

The only impressive thing of the update is that the 15 and 17, with those powerful processors, retain the amount of battery power that they do.

If you could hold on for another year, I'd get the refresh. However, if you can't wait pull the trigger and get one now :D

Oh, I don't know, maybe I'll hold on to this one a year more, its not like it's not functioning for what I do with it. However, the next MBP I get will have to manage more than this one.
