Who Else Thinks the Standard CL Looks So Boring and Dull

This can't possible be the same Martin who thinks the GLK has a genuine purpose ...can it?

Of course the CL is pointless ....it offers nothing that the S class doesn't -- in fact, it offers less than an S class. But you well know Martin that it is purely about prestige. A Mercedes coupé is always considered to be more glamorous than a 4-door model.

Wow, saying a CL isn't stylish... Honestly between it and an S-Class I won't hesitate a second. I find the CL gorgeous.

I would neva , eva, eva take a standard CL over a standard S...The thing is disgracefully ugly..In AMG Disguise..its the most beautiful...But which merc isnt beautiful with an AMG Pack...Exclude the R please...

I'm not disputing the CL's purpose - I'm saying that it looks dull and boring. I don't care what it does.

^ you might think the AMG package looks far better ....but it is not appropriate for all situations. The AMG package is blingy ....it is intended to make the car appear more aggressive -- this does not suit every buyer.

Even though it may be somewhat exclusivity, don't discount aesthetics when evaluating the CL (&S) owners. I personally would not buy a CL without the "sport package", and I think the current sales of kit optioned CL & S indicate agreement with my thinking. The 2009 SL available only with the sport package is probably another example of its popularity. Then again, after everyone eventually has the sport package, it will probably become more vogue not to have it!

I understand. But there's a reason you bought a CL63 and not a CL600. There's also a reason why the S/CL 600's in America don't have the AMG option.

I, for one, think that the AMG kit should only be on real AMG's. But that's only me.


All I'm really saying is, the CL is more exclusive than the S and SL because of the engines it's offered in. You could only get a CL550, 600 or an AMG. Where as with the S and SL, you could get it with almost any engine you desire (except the U.S. of course). And that's probably the reason someone would buy a CL over an S or an SL, not the way it looks or the kit its sporting.

The previous CL, I believe, was Bruno Sacco's last design.

The current on isn't a failure. It will be interesting to see how the facelift addresses some of its issues.

It sure isn`t
Fact is this car looks so much better INR than in photos. One of the Biggest problems with the standard CL is the AMG version itself. It`s really outstanding and sporty to the standard car and totally transforms the CL look as others have stated.

I believe MB will address the grill and bumper-spolier designs with the standard car as thay have with the f/l S-Class which will phase out the dull-factor. Thats really going to change some opinions here at GermanCarForum, believe it!

I have seen a few CL 63 AMGs on the road, in black and in silver, and I have seen a few CL 500 on the road. Both versions don't look dull, and they do turn heads on the road, however they don't set my pulse racing like when I see a Maserati Grand Turismo.

I do think the CL looks very nonchalant in standard trim. I believe a facelift would include an attractive non-AMG CL look (just look at the new SL and C).
