Post about any camera or camera parts that you have, want, admire, lust, or just think is damn cool.

This is meant to be an informative thread for people who want to know about different cameras or just like discussing them.

Thats the same market I am in right now I am currently looking into the Pentax K100D because for the price it's one hell of a camera. But I am sure there are some others on this board who could give a bit more experienced input.
    It's about $650

Well, for an entry level DSLR you have several.

    Depending on your budget.

    Nikon

D50 (6 megapixels may be replaced soon)$599 US
D80 (10 megapixel. brand new just came out) $999 US

    Canon

350D (old. 8 megapixel. was replaced by 400D. still available) Price: I am not sure.
400D (brand new. 10 megapixel) about $800 US

    Sony

A100 (not to much of an entry level, but not a bad price

    Pentax

    Well Choleric already mentioned that

I have done some actually. I have shot at 3200 and even though there is noise, it is not as bad as I predicted. I will post pictures when I get a chance.

I'm a relative newbie to the Digital SLR world. Last year, I upgraded from a Sony W1 (point and shoot) to a Nikon D50 digital SLR.

The lens I got was the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF, which I bought as an "all purpose" lens. It is not a DX lens meant soley for digital SLR's, so my actual focal length with a digital SLR is about 36-180mm.

I would have loved to get the new AF-S DX VRII Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF, but it wasn't made yet.....

Thank you Michael... I have a soft spot for Canon, their cameras in my possession have never failed me. The 400D seems nice. (y)
  16. Michael Well-Known Member

They will never fail, and I am sure neither will Nikon.

You should go to a store and try both in your hands. Even though Canon is great and all, the fit in my hand is very important. Unfortunately the 400D doesn't stand a chance with me because of the fact that it just doesn't sit well in my hand. I feel like it is not ergonimically inclined.

Here are two shot with the Canon 20D at ISO 3200. The biggest problem with high ISO's is noise. I know Canon has worked pretty hard to reduce noise and I am sure Nikon has done the same.

EF-S 17-55MM F2.8 IS. !/500, f/2.8. No noise reduction. No flash. Resized from .jpg camera original Fine.

EF-S 17-55MM F2.8 IS. 1/60, F/2.8. No noise reduction. No flash. Resized from .jpg camera original Fine. Shallow DOF obvious at closer shot.

Very nice camera dyna-niet. The compacts capture great images. Will be waiting for some contest entries...:) Happy shooting...

Noise was a problem I kept reading about in the 400d, said it was more prevalent than in the 350d.
Doesn't look so bad in yours though.
