With its launch right around the corner the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell was recently spotted in what looks to be production form undergoing testing in Germany.

Power in the SLS AMG E-Cell is routed through four electric motors, one at each wheel, and it features a 526 hp power output.It can also travel up to 190 km (120 miles) one a single charge, drawing juice from a 48 kWh battery pack, and can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in four seconds dead. However, being more powerful, 450 kg heavier and four-wheel drive, it will be a completely different vehicle, when compared to the regular, V8-powered car.

If all goes according to plan, you will be able to buy the SLS E-Cell by late 2012 or early 2013.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive
The SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds - and in advance of that we are allowed to drive the vehicle in a few days for the first time - a driving report follows naturally - here's a new video.

The SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is the first mass produced electric super sports car. The range is 250 km (NEDC), the battery has an energy content of 60 kWh (voltage is 400 volts) and weighs 548 kg. The vehicle itself weighs 2095 kilograms, while the normal running V8 version weighs 1695 kg according to DIN.

The exclusive sports car is driven with 4 permanent magnet synchronous electric motors (each weighing 45 kg and
having a 13.000 rev/min maximum speed). The SLS AMG is available in the electrical version for the price of 416,500 euros.
